Job Description & Job Scope

Position Summary

The PPAP Technician in the Quality Department is responsible for ensuring that new or changed parts meet all customer technical and quality requirements before mass production. This role focuses on preparing PPAP documentation, performing dimensional inspections, and coordinating across departments.

Core Responsibilities

1. PPAP Documentation & Submission

• Compile, organize, and submit PPAP packages in accordance with AIAG standards and customer-specific requirements.
• Prepare documents including dimensional reports, material certifications, capability studies (Cpk), Gage R&R reports, etc.
• Track approval status through customer portals and handle resubmissions triggered by engineering changes.

2. Dimensional Inspection & Measurement Analysis

• Perform dimensional inspection and layout reports on parts, assemblies, or fixtures using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, vision systems, and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines).
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and develop measurement plans.

3. Sample & Record Management

• Maintain the PPAP master sample library, ensuring sample conditions match submitted documentation.
• Organize and archive all inspection records and quality documents for customer or third-party audits.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with Engineering, Production, Suppliers, and Project teams.
• Translate drawing requirements into internal inspection standards.
• Assist with measurement and quality issues during new mold trials (e.g., first article inspection) and drive continuous improvement.

Typical Requirements

Technical Skills

• Proficient in reading engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Skilled in basic metrology tools (calipers, micrometers) and advanced measurement equipment (CMM, Faro Arm).
• Familiar with core quality tools: PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC.

Software & Systems

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for data processing).
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality management systems.

Personal Attributes

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good communication skills (frequent interaction with internal teams and external customers).
