Job Description

Responsibilities

Company Overview

Our client is a FTSE 250 Publicly-Listed Global Leader & Premier Manufacturer of Advanced Power Conversion Solutions. Delivering critical hardware components, power controllers, and Switched-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) to top-tier international customers across the Healthcare, Industrial Technology, and Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment sectors, the company operates an advanced manufacturing facility in Seri Iskandar, Perak. To support ongoing New Product Development (NPD) and high-reliability testing, the NPI department is seeking a highly skilled Debug Engineer.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the NPI Manager, the Debug Engineer serves as the technical authority for component-level failure analysis, power electronics troubleshooting, and testing qualification for new product platforms. Working in close coordination with global R&D and factory testing teams, this role is responsible for diagnosing complex SMPS design failures, conducting bench-test simulations, determining root causes, and implementing corrective action plans to ensure flawless product launches.

Key Responsibilities

1. NPI Testing, Qualification & R&D Interface

  • Partner closely with global R&D engineering teams during the testing, validation, and qualification phases of New Product Development (NPD).

  • Coordinate directly with R&D to resolve complex hardware, testing, and design-related issues during factory qualification runs.

  • Provide dedicated technical and engineering support across all factory testing activities to ensure smooth NPI progression into volume manufacturing.

2. Component-Level Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation

  • Execute hands-on, component-level failure analysis (FA) on non-conforming power electronics units using systematic quality and engineering tools.

  • Design and execute bench-top experiments and circuit simulations to validate failure hypotheses during root-cause investigations.

  • Identify exact component failure mechanisms, analyze power supply circuit topologies, and formulate robust corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

3. Reporting, Calibration & Continuous Improvement

  • Compile and present detailed, professional engineering Failure Analysis reports for senior management, suppliers, and internal R&D stakeholders.

  • Recommend continuous improvements to production testing methods and manufacturing processes to optimize test yield, reduce costs, and enhance product reliability.

  • Identify and evaluate the latest technologies, instruments, and methodologies in power supply testing.

  • Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and operational readiness of failure analysis laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Education: University Degree or higher in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Technical Domain Expertise:

    • Strong fundamental knowledge of power electronics, SMPS operation, and analog circuit design.

    • Solid understanding of semiconductor and passive component failure mechanisms under operational stress.

    • Proven ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, PCB layout diagrams, and engineering specifications.

  • Work Experience: Prior practical experience as an R&D Engineer, Debug Engineer, Test Engineer, or Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer within a power supply or electronics manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-On Instrumentation Proficiency: Skilled in using advanced test and measurement equipment—including Oscilloscopes, Electronic Loads, Power Analyzers, AC Sources, Hi-pot Testers, and diagnostic bench tools.

  • Soft Skills & Communication:

    • Excellent written and spoken fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

    • Demonstrated capability to write formal, structured Engineering Reports following core engineering principles.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
