RESPONSIBILITIES
ACCOUNTABILITY
This position is directly accountable to Home Manager. This position will undergo a yearly performance appraisal.
WORKING DAYS AND HOURS
The role is required to adhere to a standard weekly schedule of 45 hours over 6 days.
- Mondays to Fridays : 11:30am to 8pm
- Saturdays & Sundays : 10am to 6:30pm
- Day Off on Wednesdays
Subject to flexible hours
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The position plays a pivotal role in being a positive role model and overseeing the educational experience of individual residents. This position is responsible for driving academic progress, devising strategies to improve learning abilities, and fostering effective communication with external stakeholders, including school teachers and headmasters, to ensure seamless coordination in matters of residents' learning and discipline. He/ She must be observant, attentive to residents' needs, and adopt a holistic care approach, addressing physical, educational, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects.
The position is responsible for adhering to The Salvation Army policies and procedures, including the Territorial Child Protection Policy, and complying with all relevant government rules and regulations, including those outlined in the Malaysia Care Centre Act and Education Act.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Individual Resident's Progress Monitoring: Manage residents' daily routines including school works, study time, mealtime, and rest time. Regularly assess and track the academic performance of individual residents. Identify areas for improvement and develop tailored strategies to address them. Collaborate with school teachers and professionals to create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for resident.
- Learning Enhancement Strategies: Research and implement innovative teaching methodologies and educational technologies to boost individual residents' learning abilities.
- External Stakeholder Liaison: Establish and maintain effective channels of communication with school teachers and headmasters. Facilitate regular meetings to discuss residents progress, address concerns, and align educational strategies.
- Curriculum Development and Alignment: Work closely with teachers to ensure curriculum content is aligned with learning objectives and standards. Identify opportunities for enrichment and extracurricular activities to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Resident Welfare and Discipline: Address disciplinary matters promptly, maintaining a fair and constructive approach. Collaborate with school authorities to implement effective disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Assessment and Reporting: Conduct assessments, maintain records, and generate progress reports to track and communicate clients' academic and developmental achievements. Compile and analyse data related to resident learning performance and behaviour. Generate comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Learning Resources Management: Curate and maintain a repository of educational resources, including textbooks, digital materials, and teaching aids. Ensure that you have access to up-to-date and relevant materials for effective instruction.
- Parental Engagement and Communication: Organize parent talk session to keep parents informed about the resident learning progress and attitude. Act as a liaison between parents and school teachers to address concerns and facilitate a collaborative approach to resident education.
- Education Policy and Regulation Compliance: Stay informed about relevant education policies, regulations, and accreditation standards. Ensure in compliance with all applicable educational guidelines and requirements.
- Resident Support Services Coordination: Collaborate with counsellors, psychologists, and other support staff to address the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of resident. Facilitate referrals for additional support services when necessary.
- Data Privacy and Security Compliance: Implement and oversee protocols for handling and safeguarding sensitive resident information in compliance with PDPA regulations.
- Technological Integration: Explore and recommend educational technology tools and platforms to enhance resident learning experiences. Provide training and support for resident in using technology effectively throughout the learning process.
- Maintain Cleanliness: maintain a stimulating, organized, safe and clean learning environment. Ensure residents and learning environment are thoroughly cleaned, especially after incidents like vomiting, diarrhoea, etc.
- Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to respond to and manage any behavioural or emotional crises that may arise among residents.
- Meeting and Training: Attend regular and ad-hoc meetings as required to address challenges and issues for the best interests of our resident. Provide constructive feedback and recommendations for maintaining best practices and service excellence at the Centre. Develop personal learning plan and yearly goals setting. Attend conferences, workshops, and training activities consistent with your position as required and approved.
- Others: Support and actively participate in The Salvation Army fundraising events and appeals, such as the Helping Hand Appeal, jumble sales, and charity sales, contributing to the organization's fundraising efforts.
- Carry out other duties and tasks as directed by the CH in line with competencies and activities associated with any of the above processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in educational program development, teaching, or educational administration.
- Strong knowledge of pedagogical best practices and educational psychology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment.
