Job Purpose

Lead and manage automated assembly operations, driving process development, equipment readiness, and production performance. Own the execution of automation assembly projects from design and installation through qualification, ramp-up, and mass production, while leading a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities & Job Description

1. Automation Assembly Operations Leadership

• Lead and manage day-to-day automated assembly operations, ensuring production schedules, quality standards, and delivery targets are met
• Oversee a multi-layer team structure including supervisors, engineers, and technicians, providing clear direction and operational discipline
• Maintain strong floor presence, actively supporting teams during build, integration, debug, and production phases to remove barriers
• Drive accountability and teamwork across assembly, fabrication, electrical, controls, and project functions

2. Process Development & Optimization

• Develop, optimize, and continuously improve automated assembly processes including automated assembly machines, CCD inspection, and test packaging
• Establish and maintain process parameters to achieve product quality, productivity, and cycle time targets
• Identify and translate productivity gains into tangible automation use cases and business case validations
• Drive standardization of automation modules, controls, safety, and documentation across sites

3. Automation Equipment & Project Management

• Manage full project lifecycles for assembly automation projects including scope, vendor selection, simulation, FAT/SAT, training, and hand-over
• Lead automation assembly equipment installation, setup, commissioning, trial runs, and process qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ)
• Coordinate with R&D, Engineering, IT, and system integrators to deliver scalable, ergonomic, and cycle-time-optimized solutions
• Lead build planning and execution, ensuring alignment with project schedules, resource plans, and budget targets

4. Quality & Performance Management

• Ensure assembled products meet company and customer quality standards through robust process controls
• Monitor and improve key performance indicators including OEE, yield, cycle time, scrap rate, and equipment uptime
• Drive process capability and process robustness improvements; detect and isolate sources of variation and perform root cause analysis
• Proactively identify design or manufacturing issues and collaborate with Engineering to resolve them early

5. Resource & Budget Management

• Oversee resource planning and workload balancing, optimizing labor utilization and minimizing overtime
• Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure adherence to financial targets
• Manage automation investment cases and track benefits realization
• Control production losses, scrap rate, and yield rate to optimize cost performance

6. Safety, Compliance & Environment

• Embed health and safety as a daily leadership behavior and operational priority
• Conduct regular safety walks and discussions; ensure all work complies with safety standards and legislative requirements
• Ensure safe handling and compliance for automation equipment including robotics, servo presses, and testing systems
• Maintain awareness of regulatory and compliance requirements for equipment design and operation

7. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians
• Conduct performance feedback, coaching, and development for team members and group leaders
• Build multi-skill capabilities and manage technical training programs
• Plan manpower allocation and succession to support automation operations

Qualifications & RequirementsEducation

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Technical diploma with equivalent experience considered for candidates with strong hands-on automation background

Experience

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in automation or manufacturing environments
• Minimum 5+ years of supervisory or management experience leading skilled trades teams
• Proven track record in assembly automation, robotic systems, and manufacturing process integration
• Experience managing automation projects (> CHF 1M or equivalent) from design through production ramp-up preferred
• Experience with complex, high-mix assembly environments strongly preferred

Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of automated assembly equipment: servo presses, robotic screwdriving, leak testing, cobots, vision systems, digital screwdrivers, and precision greasing systems
• Knowledge of process capability evaluations and standards (SPC, sampling checks, TPM)
• Familiarity with equipment validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ, FAT/SAT)
• Experience with system integrators and digital backbone for production environments (smart manufacturing, data integration)
• Lean / Six Sigma experience (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred)
