Job Description

Responsibilities

We are a truly global organisation with 1200 translators worldwide providing translation, localisation and QC services in 57 languages in different directions and combinations. We strive to continuously grow our pool of quality languaging offerings with the addition of new languages in order to meet our clients’ ever-changing landscape. Localisation at TVT contributes to our clients’ success by understanding their needs and exceeding their expectations.

The role

We are looking for a Regional Technical Lead to take ownership of our day-to-day media workflows across the region. This is a hands-on technical-operational role for someone who can run, troubleshoot and improve media workflows end to end, often under pressure and without close supervision. You will be the person trusted to take ownership of a live job when others are unavailable, making sure the technical setup is right, the workflow runs smoothly and problems are resolved quickly.

A significant part of the role will involve media localisation but the remit is broader. You will sit above local IT and alongside our non-technical coordinators. You are the person who understands the whole technical operation, fixes it end to end and shows the team how to use the tools.

As this role is within a global organisation, there may be an occasional requirement for flexibility in working hours to accommodate team meetings across different time zones. Occasional weekend working may also be required.

You will own:

  • The technical operation of a job end to end
  • Workflow sequencing and technical setup
  • Configuration and reconfiguration
  • Troubleshooting and operational problem-solving.
  • Technical enablement and training of the local team

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of jobs from setup through to delivery
  • Sequence the technical steps correctly and make sure workflows are configured before work begins
  • Run standing client workflows and support ongoing technical operations
  • Manage fast-turnaround localisation workflows, including live sports subtitling into multiple languages within tight deadlines
  • Support client onboarding and workflow migrations, including establishing the technical operation for new clients or bringing workflows in-house
  • Set up, run and improve QC processes to identify issues before delivery
  • Handle recurring configuration, enablement and MT setup work underneath these workflows
  • Reconfigure applications and workflows when requirements change
  • Know when an issue is within your capability and when something genuinely needs escalation
  • Become the local technical point of reference
  • Train operations, localisation and technical staff on tools and workflows
  • Support the adoption of new applications, techniques and processes

Role development

  • Independently learn new applications and determine how they can be used effectively within our workflows
  • Evaluate new tools and techniques rather than waiting for someone else to become the expert first
  • Explore emerging technologies, including AI-enabled media and localisation tools
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and quality across existing workflows

The candidate

The essential requirement is that you are a self-sufficient technical operator. You will have essential media workflow expertise and a strong practical understanding of end-to-end media workflow including localisation.

It is essential you are able to learn new technology independently. You are someone who can pick up an unfamiliar application, work out how it works, decide how it could fit into our operation and become productive with it.

Skills and Requirements

  • Subtitling and dubbing workflows, with or without specialist localisation applications
  • Media editing and finishing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid or DaVinci Resolve
  • Subtitle and captioning tools such as Ooona, EZTitles or Subtitle Edit
  • Transcoding and workflow orchestration platforms such as Telestream Vantage or AWS Elemental
  • File-transfer technologies such as Signiant, Aspera and S3-to-S3 workflows
  • The principles of how systems integrate and pass data between one another, including APIs and similar interfaces
  • Configuring and troubleshooting workflows without needing to be a software developer
  • The underlying technical craft rather than just individual applications: transcoding, FFmpeg concepts, codecs, wrappers, frame rates, timecode and timed-text formats

You should be:

  • Interested in emerging technologies, including AI tooling
  • Confident enough to become the local expert on a new tool and then teach others how to use it
  • A natural fixer, when something breaks, you get into the weeds, work out why and figure out how to make it work again
  • Remain calm and methodical when several things are happening at once

Desirable experience

The following would be valuable, but are not prerequisites:

  • AI dubbing and emerging AI-enabled localisation workflows
  • IMF and other package/versioned delivery standards
  • Content security and DRM
  • Scripting, automation, macros or other technical process improvements
  • MT configuration and optimisation
  • Experience moving beyond operations into workflow development or technical build work

Pay: $4,500.00 - $6,500.00 per month

Application Question(s):

  • Are you available 09:30 - 18:00 Monday to Friday (Western Australia time zone)?

Work Location: Remote
