Job Purpose

The Molding Supervisor directs a team of molding employees across assigned production shifts, ensuring safe, stable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role coordinates daily production activities, supports team leaders, and collaborates with cross-functional departments to achieve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity objectives while driving continuous improvement and employee development.

Key Responsibilities & Job Description

1. Safety & Environmental Management

• Promote and maintain a Zero Incident safety culture
• Ensure compliance with all EHS policies and legal requirements
• Conduct regular GEMBA safety walks and risk assessments
• Lead investigations of safety incidents and implement corrective actions
• Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with machine safety standards

2. Production Management

• Coordinate daily molding operations across all production shifts
• Ensure production plans are executed according to customer requirements and established schedules
• Monitor daily production performance and resolve operational issues
• Optimize machine utilization and department capacity
• Coordinate production priorities with Supply Chain
• Ensure accurate completion of production documentation
• Assign and organize work to utilize employees' knowledge and skills effectively

3. Process & Technical Management

• Ensure molding processes remain within validated process windows
• Monitor machine performance and process stability
• Coordinate mold changes and production start-ups
• Collaborate with Process Engineering to improve cycle time, machine efficiency, and process capability
• Support new product introductions and transfer projects
• Perform adjustments to molding machines when necessary

4. Quality Management

• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality standards
• Support containment activities during quality issues
• Drive reduction of production scrap and customer defects
• Ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions
• Participate in Layered Process Audits and Quality Audits
• Support IATF 16949 / TS 16949 compliance

5. Equipment & Tool Management

• Coordinate preventive maintenance planning with Tool Maintenance
• Monitor machine availability and equipment reliability
• Coordinate tooling priorities with Tool Shop
• Ensure quick resolution of breakdowns to minimize downtime
• Support TPM implementation and execution
• Monitor mold utilization and tooling performance
• Verify all tool changeovers are completed as scheduled

6. People Management

• Lead and coach Production Coordinators and Team Leaders
• Develop technical and leadership competencies within production teams
• Conduct daily operational meetings and shift handovers
• Train new and promoted employees on machine processes and safety
• Evaluate work performance and provide coaching and counseling
• Support manpower planning and workforce allocation
• Initiate disciplinary actions as required per company policies

7. Continuous Improvement

• Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives and Kaizen events
• Drive SMED implementation to reduce changeover time
• Improve OEE/OEU and labor productivity
• Reduce production waste and non-value-added activities
• Maintain high standards of 5S and Visual Management
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement

8. Performance Management

Monitor and drive departmental performance through key operational indicators including:

• Safety metrics
• OEE / OEU
• Schedule Attainment
• Production Scrap Rate
• COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality)
• Productivity
• Downtime
• Changeover Time
• Customer Complaints
• Inventory Accuracy
• Delivery Performance

Qualifications & RequirementsEducation

• Technical Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field
• Associate degree with equivalent supervisory experience may be considered

Experience

• Minimum 2-7 years of experience in manufacturing, depending on the organization
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Injection Molding Manufacturing
• Minimum 2 years in a production leadership or supervisory role
• Experience leading cross-functional operational teams

Technical Knowledge

• Injection Molding Technology and process knowledge
• Knowledge of blueprints, SPC, and quality systems
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques
• Familiarity with TS 16949 / IATF 16949 requirements
• Production and Quality Management principles
• Basic Supply Chain knowledge

Computer Skills

• Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• ERP Systems (SAP, PLEX, or similar)

Soft Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines
