Job Summary
The Dietitian is responsible for providing professional nutrition and dietary services to patients and clients, ensuring that their nutritional requirements are appropriately assessed, planned, monitored, and managed. The role involves developing individualized nutrition plans, providing dietary counselling and education, and working closely with healthcare professionals and the food service team to support patient well-being and positive health outcomes.
The Dietitian is also responsible for ensuring that meals provided to patients comply with prescribed dietary requirements, nutritional standards, food safety practices, and applicable healthcare guidelines.
Key Responsibilities1. Nutritional Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments based on patients' medical conditions, nutritional requirements, lifestyle, dietary habits, and food preferences.
- Review relevant medical and dietary information to identify nutritional risks and requirements.
- Assess patients' nutritional status and identify appropriate dietary interventions.
- Provide evidence-based nutritional recommendations in accordance with professional standards and applicable guidelines.
- Identify special dietary requirements, food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions.
2. Diet Planning & Nutritional Counselling
- Develop individualized meal plans and dietary recommendations based on patients' medical conditions and nutritional needs.
- Ensure prescribed diets are accurately translated into appropriate meal requirements.
- Provide individual and group nutritional counselling to patients, clients, and caregivers where required.
- Educate patients on appropriate dietary practices and sustainable lifestyle changes.
- Provide guidance on therapeutic diets, including modified diets and other medically indicated nutritional requirements.
- Review and update dietary plans based on changes in patients' conditions and nutritional progress.
3. Meal & Dietary Management
- Work closely with the kitchen and food service team to ensure meals are prepared according to prescribed dietary requirements.
- Review menus to ensure nutritional adequacy, variety, portion control, and suitability for different dietary requirements.
- Verify that special diets, therapeutic meals, texture-modified meals, and allergen-sensitive meals are prepared accurately.
- Provide clear dietary instructions to the kitchen team to minimize errors in meal preparation and service.
- Monitor meal quality, portioning, presentation, and compliance with approved dietary specifications.
- Investigate and address dietary or meal-related concerns raised by patients, caregivers, or healthcare personnel.
4. Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, therapists, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals as part of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Participate in case discussions and contribute nutritional recommendations to support patient care.
- Communicate relevant nutritional concerns and dietary requirements to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Ensure continuity of nutritional care through effective communication and documentation.
5. Patient Education & Nutrition Awareness
- Educate patients, caregivers, and staff on nutrition, healthy eating, therapeutic diets, and food safety.
- Conduct nutrition talks, workshops, awareness programs, and educational sessions where required.
- Develop appropriate educational materials and resources related to nutrition and dietary management.
- Promote healthy eating practices and awareness of nutrition-related health conditions.
6. Monitoring & Evaluation
- Monitor patients' nutritional progress and response to dietary interventions.
- Review and adjust nutrition plans based on patients' progress, medical condition, and changing nutritional requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of nutritional assessments, counselling sessions, dietary plans, and patient progress.
- Follow up with patients to evaluate the effectiveness of dietary interventions.
- Escalate significant nutritional concerns or deterioration to the relevant healthcare professional.
7. Food Safety, Hygiene & Compliance
- Ensure dietary services and meal requirements comply with applicable food safety, hygiene, and healthcare standards.
- Work with the kitchen team to promote compliance with HACCP, KKM requirements, and relevant food safety procedures.
- Support the implementation of proper food allergen management and prevention of cross-contamination.
- Ensure dietary information and meal requirements are accurately communicated and maintained.
- Participate in internal audits, inspections, quality improvement activities, and corrective actions related to nutrition and food services.
8. Menu Planning & Nutrition Development
- Assist in the development, review, and improvement of menus based on nutritional requirements and patient needs.
- Evaluate the nutritional composition of menus and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Provide input on portion sizes, ingredient selection, nutritional content, and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Work with the culinary team to improve the nutritional quality and suitability of meals.
- Support the development of new nutrition programs, dietary initiatives, and health promotion activities.
9. Documentation, Reporting & Administration
- Maintain complete and confidential records relating to patients' nutritional assessments and dietary management.
- Prepare nutritional reports, statistics, and other documentation as required.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, timely, and maintained in accordance with company and healthcare requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with applicable data protection and privacy requirements.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management from time to time.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field.
- Registered Dietitian or relevant professional registration/recognition as required by applicable Malaysian regulations.
- Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital, rehabilitation centre, healthcare facility, institutional catering, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, food safety, and nutritional assessment.
- Knowledge of Malaysian dietary guidelines and relevant healthcare and food safety standards.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams is an advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant nutrition or documentation software.
- Good command of written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.

- Able to stand and walk for extended periods when carrying out assessments, kitchen inspections, or operational duties.
- Able to work under pressure and manage multiple patients, dietary requirements, and operational priorities.
- Willing to work according to operational requirements, including weekends or public holidays when necessary.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to RM3,500.00 per month
