An Aircond Technician is to ensure that air conditioning systems are installed, maintained, and repaired properly to provide optimal cooling and ventilation for homes, offices, and industrial facilities.
Educational Requirements:
- Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent.
- Certificate or Diploma in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution (e.g., Polytechnics, Technical Institutes, or Community Colleges).
- Some employers may also accept candidates with a SKM (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (Level 2 or 3).
2. Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of air conditioning systems (split units, central units, chillers, VRF/VRV systems, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration problems.
- Knowledge of refrigerant types (R410a, R32, etc.) and how to handle them safely.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used for installation, maintenance, and repair.
3. Experience:
- Some positions may require 1-2 years of hands-on experience in air conditioning installation, maintenance, or repair.
- Entry-level positions may provide on-the-job training, but candidates with practical experience are often preferred.

Job scope
1. Installation
- Installing air conditioning systems, including split units, central units, and ductwork.
- Setting up wiring and controls for air conditioning units.
- Inspecting the setup to ensure proper function and safety compliance.
2. Maintenance
- Conducting regular maintenance checks on air conditioning systems.
- Cleaning air filters, coils, and other components.
- Lubricating moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
- Checking refrigerant levels and refilling when necessary.
- Inspecting the electrical components and connections to avoid malfunctions.
3. Repair
- Diagnosing issues in malfunctioning air conditioning systems.
- Repairing or replacing faulty components such as compressors, fans, thermostats, etc.
- Troubleshooting electrical issues related to air conditioning units.
- Providing solutions to avoid recurrent system failures.
4. Testing and Troubleshooting
- Testing systems for leaks, performance issues, and energy efficiency.
- Troubleshooting any system failures or irregularities in operation.
5. Customer Service
- Communicating with clients to explain technical problems and offer repair solutions.
- Advising customers on proper maintenance and system upgrades.
6. Compliance and Safety
- Ensuring all work adheres to safety standards and local regulations.
- Using personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling refrigerants and electrical components.
