Responsibilities

Position: Spray Painter Technician

The Spray Painter Technician is responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces and applying primer, paint, basecoat, clearcoat, and finishing materials to damaged or repaired vehicle panels. The role requires strong attention to detail, accurate color matching, high-quality workmanship, and strict adherence to safety and workplace standards.

Key Responsibilities

* Inspect vehicle panels and assess surface condition before painting.

* Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, masking, filling, and primer application.

* Mix and match paint colors accurately in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

* Operate spray guns and other painting equipment safely and effectively.

* Apply primer, basecoat, clearcoat, and other finishing materials to achieve a high-quality finish.

* Blend paint into adjacent panels to ensure consistent color, tone, and finish.

* Inspect completed paintwork for defects such as runs, orange peel, dust contamination, uneven coverage, and color mismatch.

* Perform polishing, buffing, and other finishing work as required.

* Maintain spray booths, tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

* Handle paints, solvents, chemicals, and hazardous materials in accordance with proper safety procedures.

* Work closely with body repair technicians and the Body & Paint team to complete repair jobs efficiently and to a high standard.

* Follow company quality standards, manufacturer repair procedures, and workplace health and safety requirements.

* Minimize paint and material waste while maintaining excellent workmanship and finish quality.

Required Skills & Qualifications

* Previous experience as an automotive spray painter or within a vehicle body and paint department.

* Diploma or relevant qualification in Automotive Technology, particularly Automotive Painting/Body and Paint.

* Sound knowledge of automotive paint preparation, color mixing, spraying, blending, and finishing techniques.

* Proficiency in operating spray guns and related painting equipment.

* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

* Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.

* Good knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.

* Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.

* Strong understanding of paint materials, surface preparation, and finishing processes.
