About the opportunity

An established international retail organisation is expanding its presence in Kuching, Sarawak, and we are looking for a Food Operations Leader to join our new retail operation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, working with food and creating a great customer experience.

You will be part of a pioneering team, helping to set up the food operation, build a capable team and create an enjoyable food experience for our customers.

About the role

As the Food Operations Leader (AM level), you will lead and develop the food team while overseeing the day-to-day food service and retail operations.

You will ensure that the operation runs smoothly, customers receive great service, food quality and safety standards are maintained, and the team works together to achieve sales and business goals.

You will also develop a good understanding of the food and beverage range, ingredients, product information, pricing and availability, so that you and your team can confidently help customers and identify opportunities to improve sales.

What will you do?

• Lead, coach and develop your team to perform at their best.

• Ensure customers receive friendly, efficient and welcoming service.

• Know and understand the food and beverage product range and help your team build strong product knowledge.

• Ensure the team can confidently explain food products, ingredients and offers to customers.

• Drive sales by understanding what customers want and identifying opportunities to improve the food offer.

• Ensure food is presented attractively and products, prices and promotions are clearly communicated.

• Monitor daily sales, customer feedback and operational performance and take action when improvement is needed.

• Ensure key food products are available and ready for customers.

• Maintain clean, organised and welcoming food preparation and service areas.

• Plan daily staffing and organise the team to ensure smooth operations, especially during busy periods.

• Ensure food preparation, handling and service meet required food quality, hygiene and safety standards.

• Ensure compliance with HACCP, health and safety requirements and applicable food regulations.

• Work closely with other teams to provide a smooth overall customer experience.

• Continuously look for ways to improve sales, service, productivity and ways of working.

Who are we looking for?

You may be a good fit if you:

• Have experience around min 3 years- 6 years leading of a team in a restaurant, café, food court, bakery, food retail, hospitality or other food service environment.

• Enjoy working with food, customers and people.

• Have experience coaching, guiding and developing team members.

• Understand the importance of food quality, cleanliness, hygiene and food safety.

• Are comfortable learning and working with a broad range of food and beverage products.

• Understand how good product knowledge and customer service can help drive sales.

• Have experience managing busy daily operations, including staffing and work planning.

• Can monitor sales and operational performance and take action when needed.

• Are organised, hands-on and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

• Can solve problems and remain calm during busy or challenging situations.

• Work well with different teams and lead by example.

• Are always looking for ways to improve the customer experience, the team and the business.

Knowledge or experience in food safety, HACCP, restaurant or food service operations, customer service, sales performance and team leadership will be an advantage.
