Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Senior Production Manager is responsible for leading and managing overall manufacturing and production operations to achieve business targets in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Productivity.

This role will oversee daily plant operations, production planning, manpower, capacity utilisation, inventory, maintenance, process improvement and cross-functional coordination. The position requires a strong operations-driven leader with solid experience managing manufacturing environments, driving operational excellence and developing high-performing teams.

The ideal candidate should have strong exposure to high-mix, low-volume manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing, OEE, continuous improvement and end-to-end plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Plant Operations

  • Lead and manage day-to-day production and plant operations to ensure smooth and efficient execution.
  • Develop and implement production plans in line with customer demand, capacity and business requirements.
  • Ensure production targets, output, productivity and delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Monitor production performance, bottlenecks, downtime and capacity utilisation.
  • Drive operational discipline and adherence to established processes and standards.
  • Manage production activities within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

2. SQDCP / Operational Performance

  • Drive performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Productivity (SQDCP).
  • Establish and monitor operational KPIs including:
  • OEE
  • Production output
  • Yield
  • Scrap and wastage
  • Downtime
  • Labour productivity
  • On-time delivery
  • Manufacturing cost
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and implement corrective actions where required.

3. People & Manpower Management

  • Lead, coach and develop production managers, supervisors, engineers and operators.
  • Plan manpower requirements based on production capacity and business demand.
  • Ensure effective workforce utilisation, productivity and succession planning.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.

4. Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste and optimise processes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve OEE, cycle time, changeover time and overall equipment utilisation.
  • Promote data-driven problem solving and root-cause analysis.

5. Cost & Budget Management

  • Manage manufacturing budgets and operational expenditure.
  • Monitor production costs, labour costs, material utilisation, overtime and wastage.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting and capacity planning.

6. Quality & Compliance

  • Work closely with QA/QC to maintain product quality and process compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to company standards, customer requirements and applicable quality systems.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions for recurring quality issues.

7. Maintenance & Engineering

  • Work closely with Maintenance and Engineering teams to ensure equipment reliability and availability.
  • Monitor preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Minimise machine downtime and production disruptions.
  • Participate in CAPEX planning, equipment upgrades and manufacturing improvement projects.

8. Inventory & Material Management

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Warehouse and Procurement teams to ensure sufficient materials are available for production.
  • Monitor raw materials, WIP and finished goods inventory.
  • Improve inventory accuracy and material utilisation.
  • Support initiatives to reduce excess inventory, material waste and production losses.

9. NPI / Process Development

  • Work closely with R&D, Engineering and Quality teams on New Product Introduction (NPI) and process development.
  • Support trial production, process validation and production readiness.
  • Ensure smooth transition of new products from development into mass production.

10. Digitalisation & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency through automation, digitalisation and data-driven systems.
  • Utilise ERP/MES and production dashboards to monitor operational performance.
  • Support Industry 4.0 initiatives and manufacturing technology improvements.

11. Cross-Functional Management

  • Collaborate closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Warehouse, R&D and Sales teams.
  • Resolve operational issues and ensure alignment between production and business requirements.
  • Participate in management reviews and provide recommendations for operational improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management or related field.
  • 10–15 years of experience in manufacturing, production or plant operations.
  • Minimum 5 years in a managerial / plant leadership position.
  • Strong experience managing end-to-end manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience with OEE, SQDCP and manufacturing KPIs.
  • Experience managing manpower, production capacity and operational budgets.
  • Exposure to maintenance, CAPEX, inventory and supply chain operations.
  • Experience in NPI / new product introduction is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
  • Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Willing to be based in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

Ideal candidate profile: A strong Plant / Operations leader who can take ownership beyond production — covering people, process, quality, cost, inventory, maintenance, KPI, continuous improvement and overall factory performance.

Pay: RM12,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
