The Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and managing the technical aspects of projects from project award through to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and client requirements.
The Project Engineer will work closely with the Sales, Technical, QS/Commercial, Project Management, Operations, consultants, contractors, installers, and clients to ensure smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Execution
- Take responsibility for the technical coordination and execution of assigned projects from handover through to completion.
- Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, scope of work, and contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress and ensure activities are completed according to agreed timelines.
- Identify potential technical, programme, resource, and site issues and escalate them promptly.
- Coordinate project activities to ensure efficient utilisation of manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
2. Engineering & Technical Coordination
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documents.
- Coordinate with the technical team to ensure designs and proposed solutions meet project and client requirements.
- Assist with preparation and review of shop drawings, fabrication drawings, installation details, and as-built drawings.
- Coordinate technical submissions, material submissions, method statements, inspection requests, and other project documentation.
- Review site conditions and identify technical constraints that may affect installation or project execution.
- Provide technical support and solutions to resolve project-related issues.
3. Site Coordination & Supervision
- Coordinate with site teams, contractors, installers, consultants, and clients to ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor installation progress and workmanship.
- Ensure installation works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and manufacturer requirements.
- Coordinate site measurements, inspections, testing, and rectification works where required.
- Monitor subcontractor and installer performance and highlight any issues affecting quality, safety, cost, or programme.
- Support site teams in resolving technical and installation-related problems.
4. Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings, site meetings, technical discussions, and coordination meetings as required.
- Prepare meeting notes and ensure agreed actions are followed up and completed.
- Respond to technical enquiries and coordinate timely responses with the relevant internal teams.
- Maintain professional relationships with key project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
5. Procurement & Material Coordination
- Coordinate project material requirements with the procurement and operations teams.
- Review material specifications and ensure materials supplied are in accordance with approved requirements.
- Monitor material delivery schedules to ensure materials are available when required on site.
- Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors regarding technical and project requirements.
- Identify potential material or supply issues that could affect project schedules and escalate them accordingly.
6. Project Cost & Commercial Support
- Work closely with the QS/Commercial team to monitor project scope, variations, and changes.
- Identify potential variations or additional works and ensure they are properly documented.
- Provide technical information and supporting documentation for variation claims and commercial assessments.
- Assist with tracking project costs, material usage, and subcontractor works where required.
- Ensure changes to project scope are communicated to the relevant internal stakeholders before implementation.
7. Quality & Safety
- Ensure project activities comply with Kee Safety’s quality, safety, and operational requirements.
- Monitor installation quality and ensure defects or non-conformances are identified and rectified promptly.
- Support the preparation and implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and safe work procedures.
- Ensure contractors and site personnel comply with applicable safety requirements and project-specific regulations.
- Maintain the highest ethical standards and promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
8. Project Documentation & Handover
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure drawings, technical submissions, approvals, inspection records, photographs, reports, and other project documents are properly maintained.
- Coordinate preparation of testing, inspection, completion, and handover documentation.
- Assist with the compilation of operation and maintenance information and as-built documentation where required.
- Ensure all outstanding technical and documentation issues are closed before project completion.
9. Project Reporting
- Provide regular project status updates to the Project Manager and relevant management team.
- Maintain and update project trackers, schedules, action lists, and project records.
- Provide weekly updates on project progress, key activities, risks, technical issues, and outstanding actions.
- Highlight potential delays, resource constraints, technical issues, and other risks that may affect project delivery.
- Participate in weekly project meetings via Microsoft Teams and provide updates on assigned projects.
- Maintain project information and documentation in the company's designated document management system, including Egnyte where applicable.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in project engineering, construction, engineering, or industrial installation projects.
- Experience in construction, steel structures, access systems, fall protection, structural works, or industrial projects is highly preferred.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients.
- Experience in site coordination and project execution.
- Knowledge of project scheduling, construction methods, quality control, and site safety requirements.
- Relevant certifications or training in project management, engineering, health and safety, or construction are desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of engineering and construction principles.
- Ability to review technical drawings, specifications, and installation details.
- Good knowledge of project planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Microsoft Teams.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit or other technical drawing software is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of project costing, variations, and commercial documentation.
- Good understanding of construction quality and safety requirements.
