Job Description

Responsibilities

What The Role Is

We are looking for an experienced Senior QA Engineer / Software Test Analyst to take strong ownership of quality assurance for enterprise web applications operating in a dual-mode environment of production support and continuous feature delivery.

The role will independently plan, prepare, execute and drive testing activities end-to-end, ensuring that system changes, production fixes, enhancements and integrations meet business requirements, quality standards and release-readiness expectations. The successful candidate must be hands-on, dependable and able to work with minimal supervision, while proactively identifying requirement gaps, edge cases, integration impacts and quality risks. The role requires the ability to test both conventional application functionality and AI-enabled capabilities, including workflows where outputs may be probabilistic or non-deterministic.

The role will also strengthen regression coverage and progressively implement appropriate test automation to improve testing efficiency, repeatability and confidence in releases.

What You Will Be Working On

Test Planning, Analysis and Preparation

  • Review and understand business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, solution changes and production fixes.
  • Independently determine test scope, approach, scenarios, dependencies, test data and areas of risk.
  • Develop, execute and maintain automated test scripts, and integrate appropriate automated tests into QA cycles and SHIP-HATS CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing, regression assurance and release quality gates.
  • Perform impact analysis and ensure appropriate functional, integration and regression coverage for each change.
  • Proactively identify and challenge unclear, incomplete or inconsistent requirements, including edge cases, negative scenarios and downstream impacts, before they become release issues.
  • Work closely with Business Analysts, developers and business stakeholders to clarify expected system behaviour and testability.

Test Execution

  • Own and execute assigned testing activities independently with minimal supervision, from preparation through completion.
  • Perform functional, system, integration, API/interface, end-to-end and regression testing, where applicable.
  • Validate complex business rules, workflows, role-based access, data processing, interfaces and asynchronous/background processes across relevant systems.
  • Perform database and data validation using SQL or equivalent techniques where required.
  • Retest fixes and conduct risk-based regression testing to confirm that changes do not adversely affect existing functionality.
  • Maintain complete, accurate and auditable test evidence and test results.
  • Execute and analyse automated tests within SHIP-HATS CI/CD pipelines, investigate test and pipeline failures, and distinguish application defects from test-script, configuration, environment and deployment issues.

AI-Enabled Capability Testing

  • Plan and execute testing for AI-enabled capabilities and end-to-end workflows spanning application, integration and AI components.
  • Validate AI-assisted document ingestion, classification, extraction and processing across representative document types, formats and quality conditions, where applicable.
  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs against expected business outcomes and source evidence, including completeness, accuracy, consistency and traceability.
  • Design and maintain representative test datasets and expected outcomes to support repeatable evaluation and regression testing of AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Apply appropriate testing and evaluation approaches for probabilistic or non-deterministic outputs rather than relying solely on exact-output assertions.
  • Validate human-in-the-loop workflows, including user review, amendment, approval, rejection and appropriate recording of user actions.
  • Verify that relevant AI-generated outputs are traceable to supporting source information and that appropriate audit information is captured.
  • Test confidence thresholds, exception handling, fallback behaviour and escalation to human review where applicable.
  • Perform regression testing following changes to models, prompts, knowledge sources, business rules, configurations or other AI components that may affect system outcomes.
  • Work with Product Owners, business users, developers and relevant technical teams to define acceptance criteria, evaluation datasets and appropriate quality thresholds for AI-enabled capabilities.

Defect Management and Quality Risk

  • Identify, document and report defects clearly with sufficient reproduction steps, evidence and impact assessment for efficient investigation.
  • Drive defects through triage, prioritisation, investigation, resolution, retesting and closure, working closely with developers and relevant vendors.
  • Assess defect severity, business impact and regression risk, and escalate material quality concerns early.
  • Identify recurring defects, systemic quality issues or testing gaps and recommend preventive improvements.
  • Provide an objective, evidence-based view of residual quality risk and release readiness.

UAT, Production Support and Release Assurance

  • Support business users during UAT, including preparation of scenarios, test data and supporting materials where required.
  • Support defect triage and timely resolution during SIT/UAT and production-support cycles.
  • Provide clear and timely reporting on testing progress, coverage, outstanding defects, blockers, risks and recommended actions.
  • Support pre-release checks, deployment verification, production sanity testing and post-deployment verification where required.
  • Support release assurance through SHIP-HATS, including verification of automated test results, quality gates, deployment outcomes, smoke/sanity testing and relevant release evidence before production promotion.
  • Investigate production issues from a QA perspective and ensure relevant scenarios are incorporated into regression coverage.
  • Provide a clear recommendation on test completion and quality readiness before production release.

Test Automation and Continuous Improvement

  • Assess and recommend practical test automation approaches, tools and priorities based on delivery needs and return on effort.
  • Identify stable, repeatable and high-value regression scenarios suitable for automation.
  • Develop, execute and maintain automated test scripts and integrate them into QA cycles where appropriate.
  • Review automated test results, investigate failures and maintain scripts as the application evolves.
  • Continuously improve test coverage, QA standards, templates, traceability, evidence quality and testing efficiency.
  • Explore appropriate use of AI-enabled tools for test design, automation scripting, defect analysis and other QA activities, with proper validation of outputs.

Identify appropriate approaches for automating repeatable evaluation and regression testing of AI-enabled capabilities, recognising that probabilistic outputs may require different validation techniques from conventional deterministic test automation.

What We Are Looking For

  • Preferably 5+ years of relevant experience in software testing / quality assurance for enterprise IT systems, with demonstrated ability to work independently and own testing outcomes.
  • Strong experience in preparing test strategies or plans, scenarios, test cases, test data and regression suites.
  • Strong functional and regression testing experience for web-based or enterprise applications with complex business workflows.
  • Experience testing APIs, interfaces or integrations between multiple systems, including end-to-end data flows.
  • Experience in defect management, including impact assessment, triage, retesting and closure.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools or frameworks and the ability to implement and maintain practical automation solutions.
  • Able to translate business and functional requirements into comprehensive test coverage and independently identify missing scenarios or requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with attention to detail and sound quality judgement.
  • Able to communicate defects, testing status, risks and release-readiness assessments clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to work effectively with business users, Product Owners, Business Analysts, developers, technical teams and vendors in an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
  • Familiarity with defect and work-management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps or equivalent.
  • Experience testing AI/ML-enabled, intelligent automation, document-processing or other systems involving probabilistic or non-deterministic behaviour; alternatively, demonstrated ability to understand and apply appropriate AI testing and evaluation techniques.
  • Able to design test scenarios and evaluation datasets for outputs that cannot always be validated through simple deterministic pass/fail assertions.
  • Able to validate end-to-end data and workflow behaviour across user interfaces, APIs, backend services, integrations and AI-enabled components.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, boundary conditions, negative testing, traceability and evidence-based validation.
  • Able to distinguish defects in application logic, integration, data, configuration and AI-generated behaviour, and work with the relevant technical teams to support root-cause investigation.

Good to Have

  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience performing database/data validation.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman or equivalent.
  • Experience working with SHIP-HATS or equivalent DevSecOps/CI/CD platforms, including integrating automated tests into delivery pipelines, reviewing pipeline test results and supporting automated quality gates.
  • Experience testing asynchronous processing, queues, scheduled jobs or system-to-system integrations.
  • Experience supporting UAT, production releases, hotfixes and post-deployment verification.
  • Experience working in a dual-mode environment covering both BAU production support and continuous Agile delivery.
  • Experience with OutSystems or other low-code application platforms.
  • Experience in government, regulated or security-conscious enterprise environments.
  • Experience testing AI/ML, Generative AI, OCR, intelligent document processing or retrieval-based applications.
  • Familiarity with AI evaluation concepts and techniques, including reference or ground-truth datasets, accuracy and quality metrics, confidence thresholds, unsupported-output testing and regression evaluation.
  • Experience validating document classification, extraction or OCR accuracy across different document formats and quality conditions.
  • Familiarity with testing human-in-the-loop workflows and traceability of AI-generated outputs to supporting source information.
  • Familiarity with evaluating changes to prompts, models, knowledge sources or AI configurations and assessing their impact on existing behaviour.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools responsibly to improve QA effectiveness.
