Company Overview

Our client is a Premier, Publicly-Listed Sustainable Metals & Heavy Industrial Manufacturing Conglomerate with an expansive international operating footprint. Recognized as a global market leader in sustainable metals production, the group operates high-capacity smelting, extrusion, and heavy manufacturing assets across multiple operating entities. To ensure standardized safety governance, continuous environmental compliance, and uniform management systems across all operating subsidiaries, the corporate leadership is seeking an Assistant Manager, Group EHS.

Position Overview

The Assistant Manager, Group EHS will support the development, corporate oversight, and continuous improvement of Group-wide EHS management systems, strategies, and statutory compliance frameworks. Serving as a central technical advisor to entity-level EHS teams across various plant sites, this role is responsible for driving Group-level audits, monitoring risk performance metrics, standardizing ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 frameworks, and leading cross-entity safety governance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Group EHS Policy & Governance Standardization

  • Support the formulation, rollout, and continuous enhancement of Group EHS strategies, corporate policies, and standardized management frameworks across all operating entities.

  • Provide corporate oversight and technical guidance to plant-level EHS teams to ensure uniform implementation of Group safety standards and statutory regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor Group-wide EHS performance metrics, incident trends, and regulatory compliance statuses, recommending targeted corrective and preventive actions.

2. Audit, Risk Assessment & Incident Review

  • Plan and coordinate Group-level EHS audits, safety reviews, risk assessments, and corrective-action follow-up across all operating sites.

  • Lead in-depth reviews of significant safety incidents, environmental deviations, and high-potential near-misses, evaluating investigation findings and enforcing preventative countermeasures.

  • Ensure strict corporate alignment with legal obligations, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH/JKKP) standards, Department of Environment (DOE) regulations, and ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 frameworks.

3. Performance Reporting, Capability Building & Cross-Entity Coordination

  • Analyze Group EHS performance data to prepare comprehensive compliance reports, risk dashboards, and executive updates for Management.

  • Lead Group-wide capability-building programs, safety training modules, and knowledge-sharing workshops to elevate safety culture across all subsidiaries.

  • Facilitate cross-entity EHS initiatives, promoting best-practice sharing and harmonized safety procedures across diverse manufacturing units.

  • Undertake ad-hoc strategic projects and statutory compliance tasks assigned by Corporate Management.

Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • Work Experience: At least 5 years of relevant EHS experience, ideally gained within a manufacturing, heavy industry, or multi-site industrial environment.

    • Experience coordinating EHS governance across multiple operating entities or business units is a strong advantage.

  • Regulatory & Systems Knowledge:

    • Solid mastery of Malaysian Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH/JKKP) and Environmental (DOE) legislation.

    • Hands-on experience with ISO 14001 (EMS) and ISO 45001 (OH&S) corporate management systems.

    • Proven capability in leading EHS audits, formal incident investigations, hazard evaluations, and performance reporting.

  • Certifications: Relevant professional registration or competency certification (e.g., DOSH Registered Safety & Health Officer / SHO, Certified Environmental Professional) is an added advantage.

  • Language & Communication: Strong written and spoken proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Fluency in Mandarin is a key advantage for effective cross-entity stakeholder communication and executive reporting.

  • Personal Attributes: Strong analytical skills, excellent stakeholder management capabilities, and a structured, consultative approach to corporate governance.

  • Mobility: Willingness to travel to operating entities and manufacturing sites across the region as required
