Role Description The Mandarin OPI/VRI Interpreter (Remote) is a full-time role responsible for providing high-quality interpretation between Mandarin and English via over-the-phone and video remote channels. On a daily basis, the interpreter facilitates accurate, impartial, and confidential communication between parties in settings that may include healthcare, business, customer support, education, and public services. Responsibilities include listening carefully to speakers, conveying messages faithfully without additions or omissions, and adapting to diverse subject matter and accents. The interpreter follows client and company protocols, manages time effectively to handle scheduled sessions and on-demand calls, and maintains professional conduct throughout each interaction. The role also involves documenting sessions when required, safeguarding sensitive information, and participating in ongoing training to maintain language proficiency and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in both spoken and written Mandarin and English, with the ability to interpret accurately and fluently in real time.
• Demonstrated experience in consecutive interpretation for phone and video-based sessions, preferably in healthcare, legal, or customer service contexts is a plus.
• Excellent listening skills, note-taking ability, and attention to detail to ensure precise transfer of meaning and tone.
• High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to navigate cross-cultural communication respectfully and professionally.
• Comfort using remote communication platforms, headsets, and standard office software, with reliable internet access and a quiet home workspace.
• Strong ethical judgment, commitment to confidentiality, and adherence to professional codes of conduct and client protocols.
• Effective time management and organizational skills to handle scheduled assignments, on-demand calls, and varying workloads.
• Prior experience as an interpreter or relevant certification in interpreting or linguistics is highly beneficial; familiarity with AI-enabled language tools is a plus.
