About the role

We are looking for a hands-on Python Backend Developer to build the first version of a SaaS platform for IT operations service providers and their business customers. You will own backend implementation, database design, APIs, testing, and deployment, working directly with the product owner against a detailed engineering specification.

The frontend will be developed separately using AI-assisted tools. Frontend implementation, React, and UI design are not part of this role. You will define clear API contracts and support frontend integration by validating backend behaviour and troubleshooting API issues.

What you will build

The platform will support multiple service providers, each serving multiple customer companies, with strict separation of customer data. Core features include:

• Organisations, projects, users, role-based permissions, and customer access controls.

• Resource requests, approvals, ticket priorities, assignment, and delivery acceptance.

• Asset records for virtual machines, databases, storage, and domain names.

• Resource changes, renewals, retirement, expiry reminders, and audit trails.

• Comments, internal notes, attachments, notifications, and reporting.

Operations staff will manually provision resources on AWS or CNNetworks and register or renew domains through providers such as NameSilo and GoDaddy, then record the results in the system. Automated provisioning and registrar integrations are outside the initial scope.

Required skills and experience

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience, including production backend applications.

• Strong Python and Django skills, with practical experience building REST APIs; Django REST Framework is preferred.

• Solid PostgreSQL and relational database design experience, including SQL, transactions, and query optimisation.

• Experience implementing authentication, permissions, and organisation- or customer-level access restrictions.

• Understanding of concurrency control, idempotency, validation, and consistent business records.

• Practical experience with automated testing, Git, Docker, Linux, and production troubleshooting.

• Ability to work independently, clarify requirements, demonstrate progress, and raise risks early.

• Ability to explain technical decisions in clear English to a non-technical product owner.

Good to have

• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, ticketing, approvals, inventory, or asset management systems.

• Celery, Redis, scheduled tasks, and notification retries.

• AWS deployment, private object storage, CI/CD, monitoring, and recovery testing.

• Audit logging, secure file handling, and PostgreSQL row-level security.

• OpenAPI documentation and API integration with separately developed frontends.

Knowledge of CNNetworks, NameSilo, or GoDaddy is helpful but not required. This is an application backend engineering role; frontend development and AI model development are not required.

• Build maintainable backend services and REST APIs using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.

• Design PostgreSQL schemas, constraints, indexes, and versioned database migrations.

• Implement multi-tenant isolation, permissions, approval workflows, and traceable audit records.

• Handle concurrent updates, duplicate requests, failed operations, and reliable background jobs.

• Implement secure authentication, private file access, and access-controlled data exports.

• Write automated tests for permissions, workflow transitions, and data integrity.

• Set up Docker-based deployment and document APIs, configuration, backup, and recovery procedures.
