Job Description

Responsibilities

About the company
A well-established organisation is growing its Singapore operations team and is now hiring an Operations Centre Analyst to join around the clock team overseeing large scale data centre infrastructure. The environment spans thousands of servers, high-capacity networks and fully redundant power and cooling plant, all watched continuously through centralised monitoring and well documented operating processes.

About the role
Based in the operations centre, you will usually be the first person to see a problem and the one who sets the response in motion. Alerts arrive from servers, network links, building plant and security systems, and your job is to work out what has actually happened, how much it matters and who needs to act on it. When a significant outage occurs, you will take charge as incident commander, keeping engineers, site teams and stakeholders working from the same picture until service is restored. Afterwards, you will work back through the timeline and data to establish why it happened and what should change. The role also reaches beyond technology into protecting people and sites, covering external risk intelligence and physical security, so it suits someone who is equally comfortable reading a power alarm, a network fault or a door access log.

Key responsibilities

  • Watch live dashboards covering compute, network, power, cooling and environmental conditions, and investigate anything outside normal operating limits.
  • Judge the seriousness of each event by its effect on services and people, then hand it to the engineering or site team best placed to fix it.
  • Take command of high impact outages, running the bridge call, setting priorities for responding teams and recording each action against a timeline.
  • Keep stakeholders informed with concise, accurate updates at every stage, from first alert to confirmed recovery.
  • Follow facility events raised through the DCIM (Data Centre Infrastructure Management) platform, such as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), generator and cooling alarms, and stay with on site engineers until conditions are back to normal.
  • Monitor external intelligence sources for weather, civil unrest and other risks to staff, travellers and facilities, confirm reports against a second source and start the agreed response, including police involvement where warranted.
  • Review camera footage and door access records to look into unusual activity, and pass what you find to the relevant security team.
  • Lead post incident reviews that establish what caused an event and recommend changes to stop it happening again.
  • Keep every ticket accurate and complete, so each event carries a clear record of what happened and what was done.
  • Work to documented procedures and agreed response times, and suggest improvements wherever gaps appear.
  • Treat personal data such as video, access logs and travel details with care and in line with privacy law.

About you

  • At least two years in around the clock operations role, such as a NOC (Network Operations Centre), SOC (Security Operations Centre), GSOC (Global Security Operations Centre) or data centre command centre.
  • Practical experience running incidents from detection to closure, including setting priority and escalating through defined support tiers.
  • A working grasp of TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) networking and of how server faults show up in monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with how data centres are powered and cooled, including the BMS (Building Management System, which oversees HVAC, or heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and other mechanical plant) and the EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System, which tracks the electrical supply from the utility connection down to each rack).
  • Some exposure to CCTV (closed circuit television) and electronic access control systems.
  • Understanding of privacy and data protection obligations, such as Singapore’s PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act) or the European GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
  • Comfort working from documented procedures and against measured response targets.
  • A calm, organised and decisive approach when several events are competing for attention.
  • Clear and confident communication in writing and on calls, with the ability to brief both engineers and managers.
  • Willingness to work on site across a rotating roster that includes overnight, weekend and public holiday shifts.

Highly regarded

  • Scripting in Python, Bash or PowerShell to automate checks or reporting.
  • Deeper networking knowledge, such as DNS (Domain Name System) and load balancing.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus or Datadog.
  • Day to day use of an ITSM (IT Service Management) platform such as ServiceNow.
  • Experience with enterprise video management or access control platforms.
  • Experience with critical event management or mass notification platforms.
  • A degree in IT or computer science, or certifications such as CompTIA Server+ or ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation.
