Job Description

Responsibilities

[Overseas applicants are welcome. As the role includes filming on location, your availability for shoots may affect the scope of the role and the terms of your engagement.]

We are in the business of big adventures!

From tracking the Great Migration in East Africa to meeting eagle hunters in Kyrgyzstan, we create adventures that take people beyond the usual tourist trail. For us, great travel isn't about ticking places off a list. It's about participating in local culture, meeting its people, and coming home with stories worth telling.

The Role

We're looking for a creative storyteller who can turn extraordinary travel experiences into content people want to watch, share and be part of. Your overarching goal is to help more people discover Jambo, showcase our brand and experiences authentically, and build the trust that inspires them to one day join us on a big adventure.

As our first dedicated Social Media & Content Lead, you'll own Jambo's organic Instagram and TikTok. You'll shape our strategy, develop original ideas and bring them to life yourself, from scripting and filming to editing, publishing and learning what works.

This is a hands-on creative role with plenty of ownership. You'll have the freedom to experiment, build recurring content series and help define Jambo's voice as we grow

What You Will Own

1. Content Strategy & Planning

Shape what we share, who we want to reach and how our content supports Jambo’s growth.

  • Define our content pillars and recurring series across Instagram and TikTok.
  • Build monthly content calendars tied to our business goals.
  • Identify stories in our trips, travellers, guides and behind-the-scenes moments, beyond the obvious tourist highlights.
  • Identify trends and formats that fit Jambo, and plan experiments to test new approaches.
  • Plan ways to spark conversations, encourage sharing and involve our travellers and guides in our storytelling.
  • Track performance, report what works and use those insights to shape the next plan.

2. Content Creation & Production

Create most of our day-to-day content yourself. Great content starts before the camera rolls: recognise the story, develop the hook, script it and plan the shots. A good Reel is not simply beautiful footage. It needs a story, a hook and a reason for someone to keep watching.

  • Script, shoot and edit Reels and TikToks, on phone or camera.
  • Create Stories, posts and carousels, with simple visuals in Canva.
  • Write hooks, captions and copy in Jambo’s voice.
  • Bring our media bank to life by combining footage from past adventures with fresh A-roll, voiceovers and original storytelling. Our trips are seasonal, so this will be an important part of your work.
  • Brief, storyboard and direct freelance editors and videographers when extra hands are needed.
  • Publish consistently, typically around three quality feed posts per week, alongside regular stories.

3. Campaigns & New Product Launches

Plan and lead social campaigns for new destinations, trip-calendar launches, recce trips, new experiences, seasonal promotions and major announcements.

  • Define each campaign’s objective, audience and key messages.
  • Develop the narrative and content sequence to build anticipation and interest.
  • Plan the content, production requirements and publishing schedule.
  • Identify the footage, creators or freelance support needed, and coordinate delivery.
  • Review campaign results and apply what you learn to future launches.

What Success Looks Like

Your primary KPI is brand growth.

We want to build an audience that thinks: "I want to travel with Jambo"

Grow the right audience

Introduce Jambo to people who connect with our approach to travel. Track audience growth, non-follower reach and shares, with attention to who we're reaching.

Create content that resonates

Make content people watch, finish, save, share and engage with. Use watch time, completion rate and engagement to learn and improve.

Build a content engine

Establish a reliable pipeline of ideas and publish consistently. Over time, grow brand interest that translates into profile visits, website traffic and trip enquiries.

Is This You?

A content creator at heart.

You notice moments worth sharing and don't wait to be told what to post. You'd rather pick up your phone and shoot than spend three hours discussing what the content could be.

You understand what makes people stop scrolling.

You have an instinct for a good hook and know how to build curiosity, tension and payoff. You can turn an ordinary moment into a story worth watching.

Strategic but hands-on.

You know why you're making something and you're happy to make it yourself. You study what works, test new formats and change course when the data says so.

Proactive and resourceful.

You solve problems without waiting for a perfect brief. If you see an opportunity, you run with it.

A curious soul.

You don't just see a beautiful landscape. You wonder who lives there, what their lives are like and what story is worth telling.

Experience & Skills

Must have

  • Experience in social media, content creation, content marketing, digital marketing, creative or a similar role.
  • Strong short-form video skills, including ideation, scripting, filming and editing for Instagram Reels and TikTok.
  • A good instinct for storytelling, hooks and copywriting.
  • The ability to independently take an idea from concept to published content.
  • An understanding of social analytics and how to use performance insights to improve content.

Good to have

  • Experience planning content strategies, recurring series or social campaigns.
  • Proficiency in tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva.
  • Experience working with footage libraries, briefing freelancers or coordinating shoots.

2–3 years of relevant experience is a guide, not a hard requirement. We're more interested in what you've created, grown and learned.

Show us work you're proud of. Tell us the objective, what you personally did, what happened, and what you learned.

Why Jambo?

Stories worth telling. From wildlife encounters in East Africa to nomadic life in Central Asia, you'll have a growing library of footage, traveller stories, guides and experiences to work with. Your challenge is to find creative ways to bring them to life.

A chance to build something. As our first dedicated content hire, you'll help create the playbook, shape our voice and develop original series.

Real ownership, real impact. We're a small, nimble team where good ideas can move quickly. You'll work closely with the people building Jambo, have room to experiment and see the impact of your work firsthand.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary based on experience and the scope of the role. Share your salary expectations in the form and we'll discuss them openly in the interview stage.
  • Hybrid working
  • 16 days of annual leave
  • Opportunities to travel with Jambo to our destinations, depending on business needs and your performance.
