Job Summary

The Project Manager is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of utility-scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project(s) in Malaysia. Reporting jointly to the Project Director and Technical Director, the role holder will manage the full project lifecycle from contract handover through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to Operations & Maintenance (O&M). The primary objective is to deliver the project safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while ensuring full compliance with Malaysian regulatory frameworks and grid connection requirements. ensuring they are executed in compliance with contractual, technical, safety, and quality standards, as well as the company’s ISO Integrated Management System (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001). This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing project resources, timelines, and deliverables while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. The Project Manager ensures projects are delivered within scope, budget, and schedule, drives team performance, and upholds company standards, while integrating quality, environmental, and health & safety considerations into all project activities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Execution Management

· Lead assigned projects and ensure delivery in accordance with company objectives and contract requirements.

· Lead the end-to-end delivery of assigned Solar + BESS projects from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through to Commercial Operation Date (COD) and successful handover.

· Develop, maintain, and execute detailed project execution plans, including scope definition, schedules, resource allocation, and risk registers.

· Serve as the primary client representative and single point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including EPC contractors, BESS OEMs, consultants, and utility authorities.

· Coordinate cross-functional project teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning disciplines to ensure seamless execution.

· Manage the integration of BESS containers, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), HV substations, and grid connection infrastructure, ensuring technical alignment with project specifications.

· Plan project resources and form project execution teams with clear organizational charts.

· Guide subordinates to perform their functions effectively according to their roles.

· Ensure projects are executed in compliance with contracts, standards, and internal procedures.

Contract & Commercial Management

· Oversee, plan, schedule, monitor, and track project activities to ensure completion within contract duration.

· Administer EPC, Balance of Plant (BoP), and BESS supply contracts, ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations and deliverables.

· Review and manage contract variations, change orders, payment applications, and claims, protecting the company’s commercial position

· Monitor project budgets, track expenditures against forecasts, and report on cost-to-complete and contingency drawdowns.

· Support the procurement process for major equipment and subcontractors, including vendor selection and performance evaluation.

· Ensure all internal documentation meets company standards and ISO 9001 requirements.

· Coordinate with inter-department teams to ensure all tasks and processes are performed as required.

Technical & Engineering Oversight

· Collaborate with the Technical Director to ensure design compliance with project technical specifications, Employer’s Requirements, and Malaysian Grid Code standards.

· Oversee technical interface management across solar PV arrays, inverters, BESS, SCADA, protection and control systems, and grid connection assets.

· Work closely with project engineers for submissions to authorities and follow up until satisfactory approvals are achieved.

· Coordinate with site managers to monitor and control site progress according to scheduled timelines.

· Collaborate with project engineers and purchasing teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and propose alternatives if required.

· Ensure grid code compliance and support the coordination of Power System Studies (PSS) and interconnection requirements with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) or relevant utility authorities.

· Witness and validate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for critical equipment.

· Liaise with project engineers and finance teams to ensure invoices and claims are submitted and approved by clients.

· Certify supplier/contractor invoices and claims as necessary

Programme & Risk Management

·Maintain rigorous oversight of the project baseline programme, protecting the critical path and implementing recovery strategies where necessary.

· Establish and manage structured risk registers, proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks.

· Coordinate early warning mechanisms with contractors and escalate critical issues with defined recovery plans.

HSE & Regulatory Compliance

· Champion a strong safety culture across all project activities, ensuring full compliance with Malaysian occupational safety and health regulations and project-specific HSE plans.

· Ensure compliance with all relevant Malaysian regulatory requirements, including Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) approvals, environmental conditions, and local authority permits.

· Manage grid connection agreements and ensure adherence to export capacity limits and technical standards set by TNB, SESB, or SEB.

Commissioning & Handover

· Oversee the commissioning strategy, energisation readiness, and performance testing to validate contractual guarantees.

· Ensure a structured interface with the Asset Management and O&M teams for a seamless transition.

· Secure complete and compliant handover documentation, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and warranty certificates.

Reporting & Governance

· Produce structured monthly reports covering programme status, commercial performance, risk exposure, HSE metrics, and key decisions required.

· Lead and facilitate regular project meetings with internal teams, clients, and contractors, providing summary reports to the Project Director and Technical Director.

· Ensure all project records are accurate, adequately maintained, and audit-ready.

ISO Integrated Management System (IMS) Compliance

ISO 9001 – Quality Management

· Ensure all project activities, documentation, and deliverables comply with quality procedures.

· Maintain accurate project records, drawings, and reports for audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

ISO 14001 – Environmental Management

· Incorporate environmentally responsible practices into project execution.

· Minimize environmental impacts during project activities and support sustainability goals.

ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety

· Comply with HSE standards and ensure site safety for all project activities.

· Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.

· Promote a safety-first culture among project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

· Other Duties

· Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as instructed by the Superior/Senior Management team.
