Position Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Product Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team. The successful candidate will support the development and improvement of precision mechanical products from concept through design, prototyping, validation, tooling, and production.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical design fundamentals, practical manufacturing knowledge, and experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams. The engineer should be comfortable solving technical problems independently and using engineering analysis, including basic finite element analysis (FEA) or mechanical simulation, to support design decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
Support the full product development cycle, including concept development, detailed design, design review, prototyping, engineering validation, tooling and manufacturing readiness, product release, and production support.
Prepare and review engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, specifications, and bills of materials.
Conduct tolerance analysis and apply appropriate GD&T principles.
Perform basic FEA or mechanical simulation to evaluate designs and support engineering decisions.
Interpret simulation results, including stress, deformation, contact behavior, and mechanical performance, and use the findings to improve designs.
Work closely with suppliers, tooling vendors, and contract manufacturers on prototypes, tooling, manufacturing processes, and technical issues.
Apply DFM and DFA principles to improve manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost.
Investigate product or manufacturing issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop practical corrective solutions.
Support design improvements for existing products related to performance, reliability, quality, manufacturability, and cost.
Coordinate with Quality, Manufacturing, Project Management, and other engineering functions.
Maintain accurate drawings, specifications, test records, and other engineering documentation.
Take ownership of assigned engineering activities and drive technical issues through closure.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
Preferably 5 or more years of relevant mechanical design or product development experience.
Hands-on experience developing mechanical products from design through prototype, validation, and production.
Experience working with manufacturing suppliers, tooling vendors, or contract manufacturers is preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
Good understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional tolerancing, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Working knowledge of injection-molded plastic components, metal components, common manufacturing processes, tooling, DFM, and DFA.
Experience with prototype development, design verification and validation, root-cause analysis, and engineering problem solving.
Basic experience with FEA or mechanical simulation using SOLIDWORKS Simulation, ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent tool.
Ability to define reasonable simulation assumptions and interpret results to support practical design decisions.
Experience with Moldflow or similar plastic-flow simulation software would be an advantage.
Preferred Experience
Fiber-optic connectors or interconnect products.
Data-center, telecom, or high-tech communication products.
Precision mechanical assemblies and precision injection-molded plastic components.
Injection-mold tooling development and high-volume manufacturing.
Design verification and product qualification.
Application of mechanical simulation or FEA during product development, including correlation with physical testing.
