Software Architect – AI & Banking

Location: Kuala Lumpur / Hybrid

Reporting to: CTO, working closely with the CIO, Cloud Architect and Agentic AI Engineer

XIONEX is building X-One, an AI-native banking operations platform combining agentic AI, deterministic controls, human oversight and auditable workflows.

XIONEX also operates as an AI-native company. AI agents perform the work they can perform, while humans remain accountable for review, judgement and final decisions. Our specialists do not compete with AI agents. They direct, challenge and govern them.

The Role

We are looking for a Software Architect – AI & Banking to own the application and system architecture of X-One.

You will define how the platform is structured, establish clear boundaries between traditional banking logic and AI-driven capabilities, and ensure that prototypes and POCs are developed into secure, scalable and production-ready solutions.

You will also review architecture, designs and code produced by developers and AI-assisted engineering workflows, ensuring that the platform remains maintainable, auditable and suitable for a regulated banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the software and systems reference architecture for X-One.
• Design clear boundaries between:
• Deterministic banking and compliance logic
• Agentic AI and LLM-driven behaviour
• Shared platform services
• Product-specific banking modules
• Define service, API, event, data and integration contracts.
• Review and approve architecture proposals, technical designs and AI-generated engineering outputs.
• Establish appropriate controls for where AI agents can operate autonomously and where human review or approval is required.
• Guide backend architecture using Python and FastAPI, together with React/TypeScript integration patterns.
• Shape data architecture using PostgreSQL, pgvector, workflows and audit trails.
• Drive the transition of POCs and prototypes into secure, testable and maintainable production solutions.
• Establish architecture decision records (ADRs), design reviews and production-readiness criteria.
• Ensure solutions support auditability, explainability, human approval and customer-instance isolation.
• Partner with the Cloud Architect on deployment, resilience, observability and operational requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience as a Software Architect, Systems Architect, Solution Architect or senior technical lead.
• Proven experience taking complex applications or platforms from prototype/POC into production.
• Strong knowledge of backend, API and integration architecture.
• Experience designing modular, distributed or event-driven systems.
• Strong understanding of domain boundaries, data architecture, versioning and system evolution.
• Ability to review and improve architecture, technical designs and code produced by other engineers.
• Good judgement across security, scalability, performance, maintainability and technical debt.
• Comfortable remaining technically hands-on rather than operating purely at a conceptual architecture level.
• Willingness to work with AI agents and AI-assisted engineering as part of the software development process.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience in several of the following would be advantageous:

• Python / FastAPI
• PostgreSQL / pgvector
• Redis
• OpenAPI / REST APIs
• React / TypeScript
• AI or LLM-integrated applications
• RAG, vector search or agentic AI workflows
• AI-assisted software development
• Workflow or decision-management platforms
• Event-driven and distributed architectures
• CI/CD and modern software engineering practices

Banking & Regulatory Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:

• Banking or fintech
• Insurance or another regulated industry
• Compliance or audit-heavy systems
• Human-in-the-loop approval processes
• Explainable decision systems
• Architecture governance and formal design reviews

Within the first year, XIONEX aims to have:

• Repeatable standards for taking POCs into production

• Clear separation between deterministic banking logic and probabilistic AI components
