Senior Infra & Networks Specialist (Network Operations)
Position Overview
Responsible for the hands-on daily operation, administration, monitoring and troubleshooting of IT network and infrastructure, covering the enterprise and AV network, campus Wi-Fi, on-premises Windows Server platform services, Microsoft 365 / Entra ID and network-related helpdesk functions across Academic and Residential
This is a practical, operations-focused role centred on keeping the campus network running reliably and securely day to day. The Senior Infra & Networks Specialist reports to the IT Senior Manager - Infrastructure & Helpdesk Services and works closely with IT colleagues, contractors, vendors and campus stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Network Operations & Administration
- Carry out daily hands-on operation, monitoring, configuration and troubleshooting of ASB enterprise network across Academic and Residential, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VLAN, routing, switching, firewall, VPN, DHCP and DNS services.
- Configure, maintain and troubleshoot multi-vendor network equipment, including Cisco, HP/Aruba and Extreme Networks switches, routers, wireless controllers and access points.
- Administer enterprise and public Wi-Fi, internet access policy, bandwidth management, PABX and IP telephony services.
- Manage and administer enterprise firewalls, including rule/policy configuration, security policy management, VPN setup and maintenance, and firewall troubleshooting.
- Apply and maintain network security configurations such as IPS/IDS, NAC/RADIUS, security access groups and network segmentation.
- Perform diagnostics to determine the nature of network and infrastructure problems, and conduct troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of network devices and related hardware/software.
- Recommend practical improvements to network operations whenever necessary.
Infrastructure & Data Centre Operations
- Perform routine data network room operations — installation, patching, upgrading and configuration of switches, wireless controllers, access points, routers, firewalls, structured cabling and related infrastructure components.
- Operate and maintain on-premises Windows Server infrastructure, including Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file/print services, Hyper-V virtualisation, server patching, monitoring and backup coordination.
- Monitor, test and maintain backup, recovery, failover and fallback procedures for network and server infrastructure.
- Maintain network and infrastructure inventory, asset records and lifecycle tracking, and flag replacement, repair, warranty, license, subscription and firmware upgrade requirements.

Microsoft 365, Entra ID & PAM Administration
- Perform day-to-day Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration tasks, including user and group management, license assignment, mailbox support, MFA/Conditional Access and access-related troubleshooting.
- Manage and administer the Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution, including configuring and maintaining privileged access, onboarding accounts, managing access policies and troubleshooting access issues.
Helpdesk & User Support
- Manage daily network-related helpdesk operations, including ticket handling, end-user connectivity support, access point installation, switch port configuration and secure connectivity for staff, faculty, students and guests.
- Provide general support for IT infrastructure, AV and helpdesk setup tasks in classrooms, events, meetings and other campus activities.
Cloud & Vendor Coordination
- Provide basic support and coordination for cloud infrastructure (AWS), including simple DNS record updates and vendor/MSP follow-up, escalating complex cloud tasks as needed.
- Coordinate with network contractors and vendors for daily infrastructure tasks, quotations, part replacement and implementation, ensuring work is completed within agreed timelines.
Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare and update basic technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration records, IP address lists, inventory lists and operating notes.
- Perform any other duties as instructed by management from time to time.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline; equivalent combination of training and relevant hands-on experience will also be considered.
- Valid Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
- Additional certifications in networking, infrastructure, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365/Windows Server or ITIL (e.g. Aruba/HPE, Extreme, Fortinet, Sangfor, Microsoft) are an added advantage.
Experience
- 3 - 5 years of direct hands-on experience in enterprise network operations, configuration and troubleshooting.
- Proven hands-on experience configuring and maintaining multi-vendor networking products, particularly Cisco, HP/Aruba and Extreme Networks switches, routers, wireless controllers and access points.
- Solid working experience with LAN, WAN, VLAN, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS and wireless network administration.
- Hands-on experience managing enterprise firewalls, including rule/policy configuration, security policy management, VPN configuration and firewall troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience administering a Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution, including managing privileged access, configuring policies and troubleshooting access issues (e.g. CyberArk, SecureKi or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience administering on-premises Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Hyper-V, patching and backup/recovery coordination.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Entra ID day-to-day administration (user/group management, licensing, Exchange Online, Teams/SharePoint support, MFA).
- Basic knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts and AWS services (e.g. EC2, S3, Route 53, DNS, IAM) sufficient to support routine tasks and coordinate with cloud vendors/MSPs; deep AWS expertise is not required.
- Prior experience supporting network infrastructure and helpdesk operations in an education, campus or similar environment is preferred.
Technical Knowledge
- Good knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, routing and switching fundamentals, network protocols and network management/monitoring tools.
- Proficient in PC/Mac endpoint troubleshooting in mixed Windows, macOS and mobile device environments.
Competencies
- Strong hands-on, practical troubleshooting ability with attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
- Able to work independently, prioritise multiple daily tasks and coordinate contractors or vendors.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
