Role Overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced Python Software Engineer to contribute to the development and ongoing operation of business-critical technology used in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.

The role combines hands-on software engineering with application support, offering exposure to complex financial calculations, business performance reporting and real-time operational requirements. You will work closely with business users and technical colleagues to investigate issues, maintain application reliability and deliver improvements that enhance platform functionality.

This is an individual contributor position suited to someone who enjoys combining software development with practical problem-solving and direct engagement with business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance software applications using Python, with additional exposure to an established application environment built using other programming languages.
• Investigate and resolve application issues, respond to user queries and provide technical support for business-critical systems.
• Monitor application performance and help maintain the reliability, accuracy and availability of operational processes.
• Work directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements, assess reported issues and translate operational needs into technical improvements.
• Contribute to ongoing platform enhancements, code improvements and the delivery of new functionality.
• Investigate discrepancies and technical issues relating to financial calculations and business performance information.
• Collaborate with developers and other technical specialists across different locations and time zones.
• Identify opportunities to improve development and support workflows through appropriate use of AI-enabled tools.
• Balance competing development and support priorities while maintaining a high standard of technical delivery and stakeholder service.

Technical Requirements

Essential

• At least three years of professional software development experience.
• Strong practical programming experience with Python.
• Understanding of financial profit and loss (P&L) concepts and the underlying calculations.
• Familiarity with fixed-income instruments or related financial products.
• Ability to troubleshoot application issues, investigate problems and provide effective technical support.
• Willingness to undertake both software development and ongoing application support responsibilities.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

• Experience with C# or another established object-oriented application development environment.
• Previous experience working within a financial institution or investment-related technology environment.
• Exposure to financial applications supporting trading, transaction processing or business performance reporting.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and an interest in applying them to improve engineering productivity and support efficiency.
