Job Description
Responsibilities
Role Purpose
The Infrastructure Tester is primarily responsible for delivering infrastructure-focused Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) testing on behalf of MNSB, independently verifying that infrastructure builds, configurations, migrations and deployments delivered by vendors or implementation teams conform to approved designs, requirements and applicable standards. The role also applies general software testing capabilities across MNSB's broader SQA and IV&V engagements, beyond infrastructure-specific scope, as workload requires.
In addition to this core testing mandate, the role carries technical knowledge in data center design and AI hardware infrastructure, enabling the individual to plan and execute meaningful infrastructure test activities on modern, AI-enabled environments, and to represent MNSB credibly in technical meetings and discussions on data center setups with partner organisations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure Testing & IV&V Delivery (Primary)
Plan and execute infrastructure test activities within IV&V engagements, independently verifying that infrastructure builds, configurations, migrations and deployments conform to approved designs, requirements and acceptance criteria.
Design test cases and test scripts covering infrastructure components such as servers, storage, virtualization, networking and cloud resources across functional, performance, security and resilience dimensions.
Conduct configuration audits and independent checks on infrastructure changes delivered by vendors or implementation teams, flagging deviations from approved designs or standards.
Execute infrastructure-specific test activities such as data migration infrastructure verification, failover/disaster-recovery testing, load and capacity testing, and connectivity/network validation.
Document test evidence, defect reports and traceability matrices to IV&V standards, ensuring independence, defensibility and auditability of test outcomes.
Map infrastructure test activities against the Software/System Testing Life Cycle (STLC), coordinating with the wider IV&V/SQA team on test planning, execution and reporting.
2. General Software Testing
Apply general software testing capabilities — functional, regression, integration, UAT support and non-functional testing across MNSB's SQA and IV&V engagements, beyond infrastructure-specific scope.
Design and execute test cases, test scripts and test data for application-level features, working from requirements, user stories or design specifications.
Perform defect identification, logging, triage and retesting through to closure, using standard test management/defect-tracking tools.
Contribute to test planning, test strategy and test estimation activities for engagements that combine application and infrastructure testing scope.
Support functional and non-functional test types as needed, e.g. usability, compatibility, basic performance/load testing to complement the wider SQA team's coverage.
3. Data Center Architecture & Operations Knowledge
Maintain working knowledge of data center design principles: power distribution (UPS, PDUs, N+1/2N redundancy), cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, in-row and liquid/direct-to-chip cooling), and physical layout planning.
Apply understanding of Tier classifications (Tier I–IV) and their implications for uptime, redundancy and SLA commitments when assessing infrastructure under test.
Understand rack density planning, distinguishing traditional workloads (5–10kW racks) from high-density AI workloads (40kW+ racks), and the test considerations each introduces.
4. AI Hardware & Power Considerations
Maintain working knowledge of current AI/GPU accelerator hardware (e.g. NVIDIA H100/H200/GB200-class systems, AMD MI300 series), including form factor, thermal output and power draw, to inform testing of AI-enabled infrastructure.
Understand power and cooling implications at scale including dedicated substation capacity, liquid/direct-to-chip cooling, and high-bandwidth networking fabric (e.g. InfiniBand) when verifying AI infrastructure deployments.
5. Infrastructure Engineering (Supporting)
Apply working knowledge of physical and virtual server administration, hypervisor platforms, SAN/NAS storage, and hybrid cloud connectivity when designing and executing infrastructure tests.
Apply working knowledge of core networking (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VLANs, DNS/DHCP) to test connectivity, security and network resilience.
Apply infrastructure security fundamentals such as access control, hardening, patch status when verifying compliance during IV&V engagements.
6. External Representation & Liaison
Represent MNSB technically in meetings and discussions on data center setups with partner and stakeholder organisations where infrastructure testing or verification is relevant.
Translate technical requirements and constraints between parties, and flag risks such as facility power or cooling limitations that may affect infrastructure test outcomes or AI hardware deployment.
Prepare technical briefing materials and test summary reports for MNSB leadership following engagements and external discussions.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain up-to-date test documentation, infrastructure diagrams and specifications relevant to IV&V and software testing engagements.
Provide regular progress updates on test activities, findings and outstanding risks to the Head of Technical and relevant engagement leads.
8. Additional Responsibilities
Key Competencies and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or an equivalent relevant discipline.
Minimum 5–8 years' experience in software testing, IV&V, SQA, or infrastructure testing/engineering roles, with demonstrable hands-on exposure to both application-level and infrastructure-level testing.
Working knowledge of the Software/System Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and standard SQA/IV&V test methodologies, with the ability to design and execute test cases across both application and infrastructure scope.
Practical experience with general software testing activities such as functional, regression, integration and non-functional testing and familiarity with common test management/defect-tracking tools.
Solid understanding of data center power and cooling systems, rack density planning, and facility redundancy/Tier standards.
Demonstrable prior exposure to AI/GPU infrastructure, with practical understanding of the associated power and cooling implications for testing purposes.
Working knowledge of server virtualization, storage systems, and core networking (routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs).
Ability to produce clear, defensible test evidence, defect reports and traceability documentation suitable for independent verification standards.
Experience engaging directly with vendors, implementation teams or infrastructure partners at a technical level, sufficient to represent an organisation credibly in external discussions.
Strong analytical and communication skills, able to translate technical findings for both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
High integrity, discretion and sound judgement when verifying vendor-delivered infrastructure and software, and handling client/project data.
Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9000/27001 or related quality and regulatory frameworks is an advantage.
Nice-to-Have Certifications
ISTQB Certified Tester (Foundation Level / Advanced Level) — software testing methodology.
Cloud infrastructure certifications — e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
Networking certifications e.g. Cisco CCNA/CCNP.
Information security certifications e.g. CompTIA Security+ or equivalent — relevant to infrastructure verification work.
ITIL Foundation IT service management practices relevant to infrastructure operations.
