Responsibilities
An established international trading group is seeking a Demurrage Manager to oversee its global claims portfolio for gas and liquid cargoes. Based in Singapore and reporting to the Global Head of Chartering, you will manage claims from laytime calculation through negotiation and settlement, advise commercial teams on demurrage exposure, and improve how claims, deadlines and recoveries are tracked.
Calculate laytime and demurrage for gas and liquid shipments worldwide, ensuring claims are submitted within contractual time bars.
Review charter parties and voyage documents, and clarify port and cargo events with owners, brokers, agents, suppliers and receivers to establish accurate claims.
Prioritise claims by deadline and commercial exposure. Manage negotiations, invoicing, recoveries and settlements.
Review sale and purchase contracts and charter parties to identify demurrage risks and advise internal teams on commercial and settlement strategy.
Work closely with trading, chartering, operations and finance teams, and build effective relationships with external counterparties to resolve claims.
Compile correspondence and supporting documents for claims referred for legal recovery.
Lead the development and implementation of tools to manage claim volumes and track outstanding claims, time bars, exposures, liabilities and recoveries.
Maintain accurate claims records in the internal system, produce weekly and ad hoc reports, and improve workflows through automation where appropriate.
At least five years of relevant demurrage experience in chemicals or liquid bulk shipping, gained with a charterer, shipbroker or shipowner. Gas cargo experience is an advantage.
Proven experience managing a substantial demurrage portfolio from initial calculation through negotiation and settlement.
Advanced knowledge of laytime and shipping practices, including pro rata calculations, with a strong understanding of charter party terms and Incoterms.
Strong commercial judgement, negotiation skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines and coordinate with stakeholders across time zones.
Strong written and spoken English for claims correspondence, negotiations and collaboration with global teams.
Interest in using automation and AI-enabled tools to improve claims workflows and reporting.
