About the Role
A global semiconductor equipment manufacturer is hiring a Commodity Business Manager to manage sub-contractors and suppliers for machined and electro-mechanical parts. You will keep supply steady, costs competitive and supplier performance high in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume environment. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Quality and Finance.
What You’ll Do
- Manage sub-contractors and contract manufacturers for machined parts, weldments, sheet metal and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Negotiate and manage supply, pricing and quality agreements.
- Drive supplier on-time delivery and quality through scorecards, reviews and corrective actions (SCAR/8D).
- Turn demand and MRP signals into supplier commitments, and lead material expediting and shortage recovery.
- Own cost management: should-cost modelling, price negotiations, cost-reduction projects and PPV tracking.
- Build a resilient supply base through dual-sourcing and continuity planning.
- Work with Engineering and Quality on DFM, first article inspection and new product introduction.
What You Bring
- Engineering degree (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or related).
- Around 15 years in strategic sourcing, sub-contract management or commodity management, including at least 3 years in an operations or people management role.
- At least 3 years in the semiconductor equipment supply chain (other capital equipment also considered).
- Experience managing sub-contractors and global suppliers in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of precision machining, with the ability to read drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of which parts go into the machines you support.
- Contract negotiation experience and a track record of cost reduction.
- ERP experience (SAP preferred, others acceptable) and strong Excel skills.
- A decisive, quick-thinking and adaptable style, comfortable making pricing decisions under pressure.
