RGSynapse is the school’s signature computational literacy and design innovation programme, where making, design thinking, coding and responsible AI-assisted development come together in a robust curriculum.

We are seeking a Maker & Applied Technology Specialist to support key functions such as makerspace operations, computational & digital making support, student mentoring and coaching for technical projects. This role requires a skilled practitioner who loves making and building, is comfortable in both a workshop and digital making/coding environment and wants to put their expertise in making, fabrication, computing, and applied technology to nurture some of Singapore's most curious and driven young minds.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the operations of the RGSynapse makerspace, keeping equipment and materials maintained, safety protocols upheld, and the space consistently ready for learning.
• Mentor and work with Year 1 to Year 3 students during lessons and project sessions, offering hands-on guidance in physical making and digital fabrication to help them move confidently from ideas to working prototype.
• Work closely with RGSynapse trainers and teachers to prepare materials, set up tools & environments ahead of each session, and provide in-class technical support where needed.
• Conduct drop-in consultations & small group sessions where students can get practical help, explore ideas independently, and push their projects further with technical guidance.
• Keep abreast of developments in making, digital fabrication, and emerging technologies, bringing fresh ideas and knowledge that strengthen the RGSynapse programme and makerspace operations.

Requirements

• Polytechnic or Technical Diploma in Product Design, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Industrial Design or a related field of study.
• Prior mentoring experience is appreciated but not required. However, experience working with students aged 13 to 16 will be viewed favourably.
• Strong working knowledge of electronics, emerging technologies and physical computing platforms (eg. micro:bit).
• Hands-on experience with fabrication tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, and workshop equipment would be advantageous.
• Proficient in CAD software, digital fabrication workflows and at least one programming environment (eg. Python).
• Connects effectively with students and mentors through patience, encouragement, and technical confidence.
• Candidates with relevant industry, workshop, or technical work experience in addition to their diploma qualification are welcome to apply.
