Only candidates with injection moulding experience and expertise will be considered. We are looking for experience candidates for the position of scientific processing of plastic injection moulding machines.
Job description:
A. Mould Trial Planning & Leadership
- Plan and lead T0, T1, T2 and subsequent mold trials for new, transferred, renewal and modified molds until the mold meets part quality, process capability and cycle-time requirements.
- Prepare trial plans: trial objective, machine selection (tonnage, shot size / barrel utilisation, screw, platen and tie-bar fit), resin and colourant, auxiliary equipment, sample quantities, measurement plan and acceptance criteria.
- Lead the trial team (trial technicians, Tooling, QA, Production) and coordinate trial readiness and schedule with mold makers, material suppliers and customers.
- Act as the single point of contact for mold trial status; issue trial schedule and open-issue status to PE and Project Management.
B. Resin & Material Preparation
- Verify resin grade, lot number, colourant / masterbatch and let-down ratio against BOM, drawing and supplier CoC before trial.
- Set and verify drying conditions per material datasheet (temperature, time, dew point); verify residual moisture where required and prevent over-drying or thermal degradation.
- Control regrind usage (permitted / ratio), hopper and dryer cleanliness, and purging during material / colour changeover to prevent contamination.
C. Mold & Machine Readiness
- Verify mold installation: clamping, locating ring / nozzle alignment, cooling circuits per cooling layout (flow, delta-T, no leaks), hot runner zones and thermocouples, valve-gate sequence, core-pull / hydraulics, sensors, robot and EOAT.
- Perform pre-trial mold checks: parting line, cavity / core condition, venting, gates, ejector system, slides, lifters, inserts, texture / polish condition.
- Verify molding machine and auxiliary readiness (check ring / screw condition, heater bands, process monitoring, TCU, chiller, dryer, robot) and escalate abnormalities to Maintenance.
D. Scientific Molding Process Development
- Develop the molding process using scientific / decoupled molding methods: viscosity (rheology) curve, cavity balance and fill study, pressure-drop study, cosmetic process window, gate-seal (hold-time) study and cooling-time study.
- Define fill-to-pack transfer and set-point rationale, and document the approved process window (upper / lower limits) for each key parameter.
- Plan and run DOE to optimise critical dimensions and cosmetics and to confirm process robustness; analyse results using Minitab or equivalent.
- Use process monitoring / cavity pressure data where available to set alarms and control limits for production.
E. Troubleshooting & Root-Cause Analysis
- Lead troubleshooting of molding defects including short shot, flash, sink, voids, warpage, flow marks, weld lines, burn / gas marks, splay, jetting, gloss variation, black specks, sticking / ejection issues and dimensional variation.
- Determine root cause (mold, process, material, machine or secondary process) using structured methods: 5 Why, Fishbone, Is / Is-Not and DOE; correlate molding conditions with part defects and dimensional variation.
- Investigate mold and molding machine problems in mass production when escalated; define containment and permanent corrective action and support 8D / CAPA.
F. Tool Evaluation & Modification
- Evaluate mold performance: filling and balance, cooling, venting, gating, ejection, parting line, slides, lifters, core mechanisms and hot runner system.
- Define and prioritise mold modification requests (steel-safe dimension correction, venting, gate and cooling changes) and communicate them to mold makers with supporting data (dimensional report, short-shot series, photos).
- Verify mold modifications after EDM, polishing, texturing, welding or insert replacement; maintain the tooling open-issue list until closure.
- Ensure trial molds are cleaned, rust-protected and returned to storage / maintenance with a mold condition record.
G. FG Sample Inspection & Release
- Own trial samples from mold to FG: collection per cavity / shot, identification (trial no., cavity, parameter set), conditioning before measurement and packaging.
- Inspect samples for appearance, dimensions, function and assembly fit; review dimensional / CMM reports with QA and identify root causes of deviation against drawing.
- Release FG trial samples to the customer together with the trial report and dimensional results.
H. Cycle-Time Ownership
- Own the molding cycle time from T0 to mass production; compare actual against quoted / target cycle time and raise gaps early to PE, Sales and Costing.
- Optimise each cycle element (injection, hold, cooling, mold open / close, ejection, robot take-out) and justify cooling time with data.
- Confirm the validated cycle time and cavitation for costing update and ERP routing at handover.
- Own IQ / OQ / PQ for ISO 13485 (medical) jobs: write protocols and reports for IQ (mold, machine, auxiliary installation), OQ (process window at upper / lower limits) and PQ (nominal process, multiple runs / lots, capability); identify revalidation triggers on change.
J. Process Documentation & Setup Sheets
- Create and maintain the Mold Data Sheet (MDS), process setup sheet and approved process window per mold / machine, under revision control.
- Prepare mold setup, start-up and shutdown instructions, material drying instructions and molding Work Instructions for production.
- Maintain complete trial records (trial reports, parameter changes, defects, modifications) with full traceability for future reference and customer audits.
- Ensure parameters released to production match the validated process; control subsequent changes through ECN / change control.
K. Pre-Production Run & Handover
- Be in charge of the Pre-Production (PP) run: review parameter settings, mold performance, output and quality to confirm readiness for mass production.
- Train production technicians / setters on mold setup, approved process window, critical characteristics, known failure modes and reaction plan; record training and competency sign-off.
- Support the initial mass-production lots until stable, then complete formal handover sign-off with Production and QA.
L. Customer & Mold Maker Interface
- Represent the company in technical discussions with customers on tooling: trial results, DFM feedback, mold modification proposals, dimensional deviations, cosmetic standards and cycle time.
- Host and lead customer-witnessed trials and tooling reviews (on-site or virtual); prepare trial reports in customer-required format.
- Provide DFM / mold-flow input at quotation and mold design review (gate location, cooling, ejection, venting, draft, shrinkage).
M. Safety & 5S
- Follow machine, mold-handling, lifting and hot-runner electrical safety requirements; ensure correct PPE is used by the trial team.
- Maintain good housekeeping and 5S in the trial area; ensure molds, materials and trial equipment are handled and stored safely.
