Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) to oversee the technical coordination and execution of M&E works for a data centre development in Johor. This role focuses on technical problem-solving, coordination with consultants, management of design and technical submissions, and close collaboration with site teams to ensure the successful delivery of M&E installations.

Working for the main contractor, the successful candidate will act as a key technical interface between the client, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams. The role requires strong M&E engineering knowledge, hands-on site coordination experience, and the ability to resolve technical issues while ensuring all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate M&E engineering activities for the data centre project, ensuring technical compliance and smooth execution of site works.
• Work closely with consultants, clients, design teams, and M&E subcontractors to resolve technical queries, design discrepancies, and site coordination issues.
• Review and coordinate M&E design drawings, shop drawings, technical specifications, material submissions, and method statements to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Manage technical submissions, Requests for Information (RFIs), design clarifications, and coordination drawings, ensuring timely responses and resolution of outstanding issues.
• Oversee the technical coordination of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water systems, ventilation, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Coordinate electrical systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, busducts, cable containment, and earthing systems.
• Work closely with site engineers, construction managers, and subcontractors to ensure M&E installations are properly coordinated with civil, structural, and architectural works.
• Conduct regular site inspections and coordination meetings to monitor installation progress, identify technical constraints, and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Resolve clashes and interface issues between different M&E services and other building disciplines, ensuring practical and coordinated installation solutions.
• Coordinate with consultants and the QA/QC team on inspections, testing procedures, quality issues, and rectification works.
• Monitor M&E construction progress and provide technical guidance to site teams to ensure works are executed according to the project programme.
• Review technical proposals and recommend suitable engineering solutions in consultation with the design team and relevant stakeholders.
• Coordinate with procurement and commercial teams on technical evaluations, equipment specifications, material approvals, and subcontractor technical matters.
• Oversee the technical aspects of pre-commissioning, testing and commissioning, integrated systems testing, and final handover of M&E systems.
• Ensure all M&E installations meet relevant statutory requirements, approved project specifications, applicable standards, and data centre operational requirements.
• Prepare and review technical reports, progress updates, and outstanding technical issue registers for project management and client meetings.
• Support the project team in managing technical risks, resolving site challenges, and ensuring the quality and reliability of critical data centre infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years of relevant M&E construction experience, preferably with experience managing technical and site coordination activities on large-scale projects.
• Previous experience working for a main contractor is highly preferred.
• Experience in data centre, mission-critical facilities, industrial, or large-scale commercial projects is an advantage.
• Strong technical knowledge of M&E building services, installation methodologies, engineering drawings, and construction specifications.
• Proven experience coordinating with consultants, clients, design teams, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary site teams.
• Good understanding of M&E design coordination, technical submissions, RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, and site technical resolutions.
• Experience coordinating M&E interfaces with C&S and architectural works.
• Familiarity with data centre critical infrastructure, including generators, UPS systems, switchgear, cooling systems, and associated supporting services, is highly desirable.
• Understanding of testing and commissioning procedures for M&E systems, including integrated systems testing, is an advantage.
• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
• Able to make practical engineering decisions, manage technical issues independently, and work effectively under tight project deadlines.
• Willing to be based at the project site in Johor, Malaysia.
