Job Description

Responsibilities

Ancourage Academy | Bishan and Woodlands

Teaching specialisations: Primary, Secondary, Additional Mathematics, JC and relevant IP/IB courses

Monthly salary: S$2500–S$4500, depending on relevant experience, subject expertise and teaching capability

Intended commencement: January 2027

Help students understand the reasoning behind the answer

At Ancourage Academy, we are looking for educators who enjoy making Mathematics understandable and helping students approach unfamiliar problems with greater confidence.

You will teach small classes of up to six students, investigate misconceptions and develop resources that strengthen both understanding and application. Alongside teaching, you will have opportunities to learn practical uses of advanced AI and develop skills in data analysis, digital learning resources and project planning.

We welcome both specialists at individual levels and teachers with wider curriculum experience. Your teaching assignment will be matched to the Mathematics courses and levels you can confidently teach.

Teaching scope

Relevant areas include one or more of the following:
Primary Mathematics, including foundational concepts, mathematical reasoning and problem-solving.

Secondary Mathematics at the relevant subject levels.

Additional Mathematics.

JC Mathematics, including H1 or H2 where you have the appropriate expertise.

Mathematics within relevant Integrated Programme courses.

Relevant IB Mathematics courses, according to your demonstrated familiarity with their content and assessments.

You may apply with a strong specialisation in one level or curriculum. We recognise that teaching Primary Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and advanced courses involves different knowledge and approaches.

What you will do

Plan and deliver regular, trial and replacement lessons within your assigned teaching scope.

Explain concepts clearly using suitable examples, representations, diagrams and worked solutions.

Help students understand why a method works and when it is appropriate to use.

Encourage students to communicate their reasoning and check the sense of their answers.

Identify gaps in foundational knowledge and provide targeted practice.

Diagnose recurring mistakes and adjust instruction to address their underlying causes.

Create and improve original practice questions, assessments, worked solutions and revision resources.

Review materials for mathematical accuracy, clear notation, appropriate difficulty and syllabus alignment.

Track student progress and communicate practical next steps to parents.

Collaborate with colleagues on teaching approaches, assessment design and resource quality.

Participate in agreed professional development and projects related to learning improvement.

Work with advanced AI and digital tools

You will receive company-funded access to selected advanced AI tools, including frontier models approved for the academy’s work, with practical training in their use.

Applications may include:
Exploring alternative explanations or ways to represent a concept.

Drafting variations of practice questions for different levels of readiness.

Developing initial structures for assessments and revision resources.

Creating clearer presentations, visual explanations and digital learning materials.

Organising patterns in student errors and preparing progress summaries.

Improving resource-development and administrative workflows.

A key part of your development will be learning how to evaluate AI-generated reasoning. You will check calculations, assumptions, notation and solutions before using any material.

You will also develop an understanding of when a tool is useful and when direct mathematical reasoning or another method is more appropriate. Prior AI or coding experience is helpful but is not required.

Build transferable analytical and digital skills

Your professional development can extend into skills useful across education and other analytical work.

Possible areas include:
Spreadsheet skills, data organisation and basic analysis.

Designing simple progress dashboards and assessment trackers.

Communicating technical ideas through clear visuals and presentations.

Planning projects, setting review checkpoints and coordinating resource development.

Testing and improving digital workflows.

Reviewing work systematically and giving constructive feedback.

For example, you could develop a diagnostic assessment and a simple spreadsheet that helps teachers identify which concepts need further attention. Another project could involve creating a visual resource that explains an abstract topic through several representations.

Development projects will be agreed according to your interests, readiness and the academy’s priorities, with assigned work included within your working hours.

Long-term career development

You will receive onboarding to teaching approaches, curriculum standards and working tools, with opportunities for feedback, collaboration and increasing responsibility.

Potential career directions include:
Senior Mathematics Teacher:
develop deeper teaching expertise and support colleagues with challenging topics or student misconceptions.

Mathematics Subject Lead:
contribute to subject planning, resource review and consistency in teaching.

Curriculum or Assessment Lead:
take greater responsibility for learning sequences, question quality and assessment design.

Digital Learning or Programme Project Lead:
coordinate a defined resource, workshop or technology-supported project.

Team or Centre Leadership:
develop responsibilities in people support and programme delivery where suitable opportunities arise.

Progression will reflect teaching quality, subject expertise, contribution and available responsibilities. Strong subject specialists can grow through deeper expertise and curriculum ownership.

What we are looking for

Strong Mathematics knowledge in at least one relevant teaching level or curriculum.

The ability to explain a concept in more than one way.

Patience in identifying why a student is struggling.

Careful attention to mathematical accuracy and the quality of worked solutions.

Familiarity with the relevant syllabus and assessment expectations for your chosen scope.

An interest in curriculum development, assessment and practical uses of technology.

Reliable preparation and clear communication with students, parents and colleagues.

Willingness to learn from feedback and contribute to shared resources.

Relevant teaching experience is welcome. We also consider strong newer educators and career changers who can demonstrate mathematical understanding and the ability to explain it effectively.

Preference will be given to candidates who can confidently teach Mathematics across multiple year levels or curricula. The ability to teach additional relevant subjects, such as Science, is an added advantage. Strong Mathematics specialists are also welcome, with assignments matched to demonstrated subject and curriculum expertise.
