1. Cost Accounting and Inventory Control
- Standard Costing: Establish, review, and update standard product costs.
- Cost Variance Analysis: Monitor discrepancies between actual production costs and budgeted/standard costs, and submit analysis reports to the plant manager or senior management.
- Inventory and Work-in-Progress (WIP) Management: Organize periodic physical inventory counts, oversee provisions for slow-moving or obsolete stock and scrapped assets, and ensure accurate inventory valuation on the balance sheet.
2. Financial Reporting and Month-End Closing
- General Ledger (GL) and Closing: Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closing processes, ensuring accurate reconciliation across Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), fixed assets, and the general ledger.
- Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare accurate Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements in compliance with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS/IFRS).
- Group Consolidation: For Singapore-based headquarters or regional hubs of multinational manufacturing groups, manage the consolidation of financial data and reporting to the parent company.
3. Tax and Compliance Management
- Goods and Services Tax (GST) Filing: Given the significant volume of raw material imports and finished goods exports in manufacturing, ensure precise handling of zero-rated exports and input tax claims on imports.
- Corporate Income Tax and Withholding Tax: Assist with or lead annual corporate tax filings; manage withholding tax on cross-border transactions and ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations.
- External Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for annual financial audits and compliance reviews conducted by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).
4. Budgeting, Forecasting, and Decision Support
- Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Evaluation: As manufacturing is a capital-intensive sector, the Accounting Manager must participate in evaluating the Return on Investment (ROI) and depreciation implications for investments such as the acquisition of new machinery or the expansion of production facilities. • Budgeting: Collaborate with the production, logistics, and sales departments to develop annual operating budgets and rolling cash flow forecasts.
5. Team Management and System Optimization
- Team Mentorship: Manage and provide guidance to junior and intermediate-level accountants, cashiers, and cost clerks.
- ERP System Maintenance: Manufacturing operations rely heavily on ERP systems. The manager must ensure data consistency between the financial and production modules within the system and drive process automation.
