Take new suppliers from zero to production-ready across Asia's semiconductor supply chain.
If you like solving real manufacturing problems — not just writing reports about them — this role puts you in the room where new parts get qualified, new suppliers get proven out, and new products actually make it to production. You will be Cohu's boots-on-the-ground technical lead for every new supplier coming into our Asia network, with the autonomy to make the calls that decide whether a supplier is ready to build.
Why this role is worth a look:
- Real ownership, fast. You own supplier qualification and First Article Inspection end to end.
- Regional scope, global stakes. You will work across multiple Asian countries, transferring processes from US/EU suppliers and building local manufacturing capability from the ground up.
- You will see your work ship. Every supplier you qualify feeds directly into new products hitting production — the impact isn't abstract.
- Room to grow technically. Heavy exposure to Six Sigma, Lean/TPS, PFMEA, DOE and process capability work, with support to pursue certifications.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Lead the technical relationship with new suppliers — from first assessment through qualification, First Article Inspection, and production release
- Decide whether a supplier's process, tooling and capability are truly ready — and own that call
- Drive process and tooling transfers as we localize parts from US/European suppliers into Asia
- Get hands-on with PFMEA, control plans, DOE and process capability studies to solve real supplier problems, not just flag them
- Run production and rate-readiness reviews before suppliers go live
- Travel regularly to supplier sites across the region — this is a role for someone who wants to be on the factory floor, not just in meetings
What You Bring
- 5–8 years in Supply Chain, Operations or Manufacturing Engineering — ideally with industrial equipment, CNC machining, automotive, semiconductor or medical manufacturing exposure
- Hands-on NPI and new-part qualification experience with external suppliers, including cross-region process transfer
- Experience managing multiple supplier qualification, localization, and NPI projects simultaneously across countries and time zones.
- Experience with precision machining engineering, CNC machining, plating, assembly, or similar manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, control plans, SPC and MSA; Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean/TPS experience a strong plus
- Comfort reading technical drawings and GD&T
- The influence to get suppliers moving without having authority over them, and the communication skills to make that work across cultures and time zones
- Willingness to travel regularly to supplier sites across Asia
- Minimum a Diploma in Engineering, or equivalent experience
