About the Role
We are looking for a Service Engineer to install, maintain and repair laboratory instruments and equipment at customer sites. You will be the technical face of the Company after the sale: commissioning new systems, keeping customers' instruments performing reliably, and resolving faults safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on, field-based role for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical diagnosis with clear customer communication, accurate documentation and a firm commitment to safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Commissioning
• Install, commission, test and hand over laboratory instruments and equipment at customer sites.
• Document installation, operating parameters and user training accurately for each handover.
Maintenance and Repair
• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration or verification where applicable, fault diagnosis, repairs and replacement of parts in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer guidance.
Customer Response and Escalation
• Respond to service requests and communicate findings and repair plans clearly to customers.
• Escalate unresolved technical or safety issues promptly.
Service Documentation and Records
• Prepare accurate service reports, checklists, asset and spare parts records, and customer sign-offs.
• Maintain complete service history in Company systems.
Coordination and Commercial Support
• Coordinate service schedules, site access, tools, parts and logistics with colleagues, principals and customers.
• Support technical demonstrations and pre-sales assessments where reasonably required.
Health, Safety and Compliance
• Follow safe work procedures, risk assessments, customer site rules and applicable laws.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and damaged equipment promptly.
Working Expectations:
• Travel to customer sites and other locations in Singapore and, where reasonably required and agreed, overseas.
• Comply with applicable site access, safety and security requirements.
• Protect confidential customer, supplier and pricing information, and use approved systems for all service records.
• Attend urgent call-outs, training or customer visits outside normal working hours when reasonably required.
• Carry out other reasonable duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the Business Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Diploma or degree in electronics, electrical, mechanical or instrumentation engineering, or a life sciences or chemistry-related field.
Essential:
• Minimum [1–2] years of experience installing, servicing and repairing laboratory, analytical or scientific instruments.
• Proven ability to diagnose faults, carry out repairs and calibrate or verify equipment to manufacturer specifications.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics and service documentation, and to work independently at customer sites.
• Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain findings, repair plans and basic operation to customers.
• Careful, accurate record keeping, including service reports, asset and spare parts records.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, with willingness to follow risk assessments and site rules.
• Willingness to travel within Singapore and, when agreed, overseas.
Advantageous
• Experience with specific instrument types such as [e.g. water purification systems, spectroscopy, refrigerator and freezer, balances, centrifuges].
• Experience supporting pre-sales demonstrations or technical assessments.
• Valid Singapore Class 3 driving license preferred.
• Relevant workplace safety training.
What Success Looks Like
• Instruments installed, commissioned and handed over correctly, with customers trained.
• Preventive maintenance and calibration completed on schedule, with minimal repeat faults.
• Service requests answered quickly, with clear repair plans and prompt escalation where needed.
• Complete and accurate service reports, sign-offs and spare parts records.
• Zero unreported incidents, and consistent compliance with safety procedures.
