Job Description & Requirements

ACT 3 Drama Academy is looking for an experienced Drama Educator to join as Deputy Head of Teaching. This is a teaching-led role: you will teach classes every week and help set the standard of teaching across the Academy.

You will deliver lessons based on our syllabus, teaching methods and approved materials, working with children in a way that is clear, respectful, imaginative and age-appropriate. Alongside your teaching, you will support the Principal in maintaining teaching quality and developing lesson plans.

We are looking for someone with strong classroom practice who is open to feedback and ready to grow into academy leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Facilitation
Deliver engaging drama lessons across different age groups, using ACT 3 Drama Academy’s syllabus, teaching methods and approved materials. Willing to teach in our kindergarten, primary and secondary school programmes.

Child Development and Engagement
Create a safe, respectful and focused learning environment where children participate, listen, collaborate, express themselves and build confidence. Observe each child’s progress closely and report it clearly to parents.

Lesson Preparation and Programme Delivery
Prepare lessons thoughtfully, adapt activities to suit the age and needs of each class, and support rehearsals, presentations, trial lessons, workshops and performances when required.

Teaching Standards
Work with the Principal to maintain consistent teaching quality across the Academy. Write and develop lesson plans for our programmes, so every class is taught to the same standard.

Leadership Support
Support the Principal in the running of the Academy and stand in when required.

Professional Communication
Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, teachers, schools, colleagues and the Academy team.

Academy Support
Contribute to programme preparation, training, meetings, creative work and other academy duties during non-teaching hours, including covering lessons for absent colleagues and attending meetings and workshops when requested.

Requirements

  • A degree in drama or theatre
  • 4 to 5 years’ experience teaching drama to children
  • Able to work on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Able to teach children across a range of age groups
  • Strong classroom presence: able to hold a room, adapt in the moment and bring every child in
  • Experience writing lesson plans or developing curriculum
  • Open to feedback and to learning a new way of working
  • Clear spoken and written English
  • Responsible, punctual and well-prepared
  • Early childhood experience is an advantage
