Job Description

Responsibilities

LunaMi Games is hiring a freelance English script writer for Ivy’s Dream Cafe, a narrative mystery and simulation game for PC.

We need someone who can take existing English drafts and make the dialogue sound spoken, specific to each character, and faithful to the story already in place. This is an editing and localisation adjacent writing role, not a brief to rebuild the plot.

About LunaMi Games and the Project

LunaMi Games is a small independent game studio currently developing a narrative driven mystery and simulation game for PC.

During the day, players run a magical cafe in a cosy fantasy town. At night, they enter surreal dream worlds, uncover memories and solve mysteries connected to the people they meet.

Through character-driven storytelling and magical realism, the game explores pressures experienced by women, including body image, social expectations, family relationships and self-acceptance.

What you will do
  • Rewrite and polish English dialogue from our current drafts, keeping meaning, character, and narrative intent intact.
  • Give each character a stable voice: how they joke, hesitate, go formal, or go blunt, and how that shifts with the person they are speaking to.
  • Make lines sound like contemporary English that can be read on screen and hold up if performed.
  • Recast jokes, idioms, and culturally specific phrasing when a literal line would fall flat or change the meaning.
  • Mark anything that feels unclear, out of character, or at odds with the original intent.
  • Work with the original writer on motivation and subtext. Suggest alternate lines where a scene is stronger for it, and note why you changed something substantial.

We are not asking you to redesign the story, recast the characters, or write a new game from a blank page.

Who this is for
  • Native or near-native English, with a good ear for dialogue rather than prose description.
  • Experience in at least one of: narrative games, interactive fiction, screenwriting, dialogue editing, or game localisation.
  • Comfortable working from a draft that still reads translated or uneven, not only proofreading clean copy.
  • Able to keep many characters distinct across a large number of scenes.
  • Happy to discuss wording and intent with the original writer instead of editing in isolation.

Experience writing or editing dialogue for narrative games is strongly preferred.

Working arrangement
  • Fully remote freelance / short-term contract.
  • Start: October 2026, with some flexibility.
  • Scope and schedule to be agreed before work begins; the project has an existing production budget.
  • Pay: hourly, daily, or per-word, depending on how we define the work. Rate discussed against experience and the agreed scope.
  •
How to apply

  1. A short note on who you are and why this project fits.
  2. Your availability from October.

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to do a short paid edit on a scene from the game.
