We're hiring: Backend Engineer – Distributed Systems (3 positions)
Kuala Lumpur | Hybrid (on-site)
AppBay Studio is a Malaysian enterprise software firm building large-scale platforms for regional retail, financial services and enterprise clients. We're growing a dedicated engineering team for a major enterprise client in Kuala Lumpur, and we're looking for backend engineers who enjoy building systems that don't fall over.
What you'll do
• Build core business logic and distribution services using asynchronous, event-driven patterns (Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar)
• Design microservices with clean domain boundaries (DDD) and solid service-to-service communication
• Build services that are highly available, fault-tolerant and horizontally scalable
• Work in Agile squads alongside architects, frontend, data and QA engineers
What we're looking for
• 4+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong in at least one of: Java/Kotlin, Node.js/TypeScript or Go
• Hands-on experience with message brokers and asynchronous processing in production
• Solid understanding of microservices, API design, and relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes and a major cloud (GCP/AWS) is a plus
• Retail, loyalty, payments or high-volume transactional systems is a bonus
What you get
• Competitive monthly package
• Hybrid working – remote by default, in the office for key sessions
• Large-scale, real-world systems serving millions of users
• A small, senior team where your work is visible
