Job Description

Responsibilities

Fractional Energy Engineer / Registered Energy Manager (Contract, Part-Time)

About Rukan

Rukan helps Malaysian industrial and commercial sites cut avoidable electricity costs. Using 12 months of TNB bills and half-hourly myTNB data, we re-price each site under every tariff it qualifies for under RP4, the TNB tariff in force since July 2025. We show the savings in ringgit, split into no-capex, low-capex and capex actions. We don't sell equipment, so our advice is independent. We work with medium-voltage factories, cold stores and warehouses across the Klang Valley, Johor and Penang, and the first review is free for the client.

The role

We're looking for a fractional Energy Engineer or Registered Energy Manager to check our analysis before it reaches clients. This is a part-time contract role. Most of the work is desk review done remotely, with the occasional client call or site visit in the Klang Valley. It starts with a pilot of 8–10 sites from 19 Oct to 1 Nov 2026, and there may be ongoing work if the pilot goes well.

What you'll do

  • Review our tariff re-pricing (General vs Time-of-Use), maximum-demand analysis and power-factor findings for each site, about 2–3 hours per site
  • Flag anything technically wrong or impractical, and confirm whether each action is no-capex, low-capex or capex
  • Join 3–6 client calls of 30–45 minutes, mostly online, to answer technical questions
  • Sign off the findings note for each site you review
  • Help verify savings once clients act, and help improve our analysis methods over time

What we're looking for

  • Registered Energy Manager under EECA 2024, or REEM under EMEER 2008, or a Professional Engineer (electrical) with hands-on commercial and industrial experience
  • Working knowledge of TNB's RP4 tariff, maximum-demand charges, Time-of-Use and power-factor surcharges
  • Experience with medium-voltage sites with heavy refrigeration loads (cold storage, food processing) is a strong plus
  • Independent: not employed by, or on commission from, any solar, battery, capacitor or energy-management-system vendor
  • Able to explain technical findings clearly to business owners, in English and Bahasa Malaysia

Commitment and pay

  • About 20–30 hours over two weeks, flexible around your schedule
  • Paid per site reviewed, plus an hourly rate for calls. Please tell us your rate when you apply
  • NDA and non-solicitation agreement apply
  • To apply: send a short note with your registration (REM, REEM or PE) and one example of a C&I tariff or maximum-demand saving you've worked on.
