About the role
We are looking for an IT generalist to be the onsite technical presence for a group of manufacturing plants. You will be the first set of hands and eyes on everything from a user’s workstation to a server rack, a label printer on the line, or an RFID reader at the dock door.
What you’ll do
- Onsite support and break-fix
- Diagnose and resolve issues across plant IT: workstations, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, basic network connectivity, and site servers and storage.
- Perform smart-hands work for remote teams: hardware checks and swaps, component replacement, cabling, reboots, and guided troubleshooting.
- Support site-specific technology within the approved scope, including IoT devices and sensors,
- RFID encoders, AV systems, time clocks, and kiosks.
- Carry out routine OS-level tasks on Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019/2022, and Ubuntu
- (installs, patching, service restarts, log collection) using runbooks or with remote guidance.
- Watch monitoring alerts and site health indicators, do first-level triage, and hand off to the right team with clear findings.
Escalation and incident response
- Work high pressure incidents with a structured approach: stabilize, gather facts, isolate the likely cause, and communicate what you know and don’t know.
- Escalate early and cleanly to infrastructure teams, vendors, and OEMs, with a clear summary of
- symptoms, steps taken, and business impact.
- Provide hands-on assistance for backup, high-availability, and disaster recovery activities,
- including DR exercises and real recovery events, under the direction of the owning teams.
Site knowledge and lifecycle
- Keep site playbooks, key contacts, CMDB records, inventories, and diagrams accurate so anyone supporting the plant can act quickly.
- Handle asset lifecycle work: deployments, moves, replacements, decommissioning, and disposal coordination.
- Rack, stack, install, and relocate physical equipment, including lifting devices up to 40 lbs.
- Take part in maintenance windows, planned shutdowns, power outages, audits, and site infrastructure projects.
- Spot recurring issues and risks, and bring forward practical recommendations to fix root causes rather than symptoms.
Partnership and communication
- Serve as the primary onsite IT contact for plant staff, linking business users, infrastructure teams, and vendors.
- Translate technical status into plain language for plant leaders and operators, and set honest expectations on timing.
- Coordinate vendor and OEM visits, repairs, and installations onsite.
- Build working relationships with plant contacts and support local planning, while respecting that plant leadership owns business decisions.
- Travel to other plants in the region for support, projects, and coverage as needed.
What we’re looking for
Required
- 3+ years of hands-on IT support experience in an onsite, field, or deskside role.
- Working knowledge across a broad IT environment: end-user devices and endpoint management, Windows Server, basic Linux, printers, hardware break-fix, and basic network troubleshooting (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, switch ports, cabling).
- Comfort working with data center or server-room hardware: racking, cabling, swapping drives and components, and following vendor procedures.
- A structured, engineering-minded approach to problem solving: forming hypotheses, testing them one at a time, and documenting what you find.
- Sound judgment about the limits of your own knowledge, and the habit of escalating at the right time instead of guessing.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to stay composed and keep
- stakeholders informed during an outage.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, work on a plant floor following safety and PPE requirements, and travel regularly to regional sites.
- Availability for occasional after-hours maintenance windows and urgent incidents.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting manufacturing, warehouse, or other industrial environments.
- Familiarity with plant operations or operational technology (OT), such as process or control systems, HMIs, or industrial networks.
- Exposure to IoT, RFID, AV, or kiosk technologies.
- Experience with ITSM and CMDB tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and ITIL practices.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+, or comparable vendor certifications.
