We are seeking a proactive Account Manager to manage client relationships and lead the end-to-end development of IT service proposals. The candidate will coordinate with clients, technical teams, and Project Managers to develop solutions that meet business requirements, are commercially viable and technically feasible, and align with delivery capabilities.
The role also involves driving account growth through upselling and cross-selling, managing contract and subscription renewals, and serving as the client’s escalation point for service issues while ensuring a positive client experience and long-term account success.
Responsibilities
Client relationship management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of clients
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key client stakeholders
- Develop a clear understanding of each client’s business, IT environment and objectives
- Hold regular account reviews with clients to discuss service performance and upcoming needs
Proposal development
- Gather and clarify client requirements and business objectives
- Identify the inputs a proposal needs and engage the right technical and delivery stakeholders for each part
- Consolidate stakeholder inputs into a coherent, well-structured proposal
- Evaluate proposed solutions to ensure they are commercially viable, technically feasible and deliverable by the project team
- Present and explain proposals and recommendations to clients, and handle questions and objections
Commercial management
- Build the cost for the project and the ongoing managed service, and set the pricing
- Escalate any pricing below the margin floor to the Director for approval
- Ensure orders and contracts accurately reflect the agreed scope and pricing
- Track revenue and margin performance for each account
- Chase outstanding client payments using aging reports from Finance, and resolve commercial disputes
Account growth and retention
- Identify new needs within existing clients and develop them into upsell and cross-sell opportunities
- Track contract and subscription renewal dates and manage renewals ahead of expiry
- Maintain an up-to-date view of each account’s services, contracts and opportunities
Client experience and escalation
- Act as the client’s escalation point when service issues affect the relationship
- Coordinate with delivery and support teams to resolve escalated issues, and keep the client updated until closure
- Monitor client satisfaction and address concerns
Reporting to the Director
- Provide regular updates on account status, active proposals and pipeline
- Report revenue, margin and renewal performance across the portfolio
Requirements
Experience
- 3–5 years in account management, client servicing or presales within IT services or a systems integrator
- A track record of costing, pricing, preparing and presenting IT service proposals to clients
- Experience managing a portfolio of existing clients, including renewals and upsell
Education
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Business or a related field
Technical understanding (enough to understand and explain solutions, not to build them)
- Working knowledge of managed IT services: endpoint management, cloud, infrastructure and business applications
- Familiarity with common platforms such as AWS, Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace and basic networking and security concepts
- Ability to translate technical solutions into business outcomes for non-technical clients
Commercial skills
- Ability to build costs and set pricing for IT services against margin targets, covering both one-off projects and recurring subscriptions
- Ability to read and work with service orders, contracts and commercial terms
Soft skills
- Strong written communication for structuring proposals
- Confident presenter, at ease in front of client decision-makers
- Able to coordinate across technical, delivery and commercial stakeholders without direct authority over them
- Organised and able to manage multiple accounts and proposals at once
- Proactive in spotting client needs and account risks
