Responsibilities

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global partnership to make palm oil sustainable. Today, the RSPO is a global, non-profit organisation with over 6,000 voluntary members across 104 countries and territories, representing every link in the supply chain: oil palm producers, palm oil processors and traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and social or developmental NGOs.

This position is part of RSPO’s fast-growing Secretariat team and will work collaboratively across RSPO’s teams globally. S/he will be responsible to implement and continuously improvise a transparent and robust system to identify and assess risks that may hinder the objectives of the RSPO, and find ways to manage those risks through planning and problem-solving.


The location of this role is Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.


KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but will not be limited to the following:


  • Implement the overall risk management process for the RSPO, which includes an analysis of the impact on the organisation when risks occur. Subsequently, manage the identification and measurement of organisational risk;
  • Analyze current risks and identify potential risks that affect the organisation, which involves identifying, describing and estimating the risks, and establish the level of risk the organisation is willing to take;
  • Implement monitoring and reporting frameworks tailored to the relevant audience, including senior management on the most significant risks to the organisation, and unit heads on the risks that affect their departments;
  • Review current risk management policies and protocols to ensure adequate controls are in place in all areas of its operations, including the risk-based audit mechanism (in line with the RSPO Theory of Change) and risk-based monitoring (in line with the Quality Management System of the RSPO), and propose improvements to the organisation’s risk policy or risk management system;
  • Build risk awareness amongst staff by providing support and training within the organisation, and to work with staff at all levels to ensure that procedures are followed for the implementation of the risk management plans;
  • Facilitate the risk owner in managing the RSPO Risk profiles in reference to the RSPO Enterprese Risk Management (ERM) Framework;
  • Understand the organisation’s objectives, responsibilities and policies, and evaluate the effects of any proposed risks against these factors;
  • Perform the due diligence processes to look into the causes or situations for RSPO potential members and and develop a monitoring mechanism to reduce the risk rating;
  • Perform Risk Assessment into the allegations raised from the public domain against RSPO members that lead to the potential breach/ violation on RSPO standards;
  • Ensure the quality control of Risk Unit external communications, including the Risk Newsletter, Risk Monitoring Tracker, and the Risk Portal.
  • Apart from the duties stated above, to perform any duty or duties reasonably assigned.


THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Education

  • University degree in risk management, Legal, Business or equivalent. A Master degree would be advantageous.


Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in risk management or a related role.


Technical and Professional Knowledge

  • Proficiency in ISO 31000 Risk Management and other internationally recognised risk management techniques, guidelines and benchmark;
  • Experience in reviewing, developing, assessing and documenting internal processes, controls and templates;
  • Practical and commercial approach to problem solving;
  • Working knowledge of environmental and/or social issues;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


Other Special Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work with people of different backgrounds and diverse political views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity with tact and diplomacy in dealing with both external persons and multinational staff;
  • Demonstrable organizational, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Good understanding of Risk Management and its business processes;
  • High integrity and a good team player;
  • Spanish, French, and/or Indonesian language skills are a plus.
