Job Summary
The Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of physical data center infrastructure supporting Backblaze's global cloud storage platform. This role serves as the hands-on technical presence within the data center, ensuring hardware reliability, operational efficiency, and rapid issue resolution in a 24x7 environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Install, rack, cable, and decommission servers and related hardware.
• Perform hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting, including disk, power, and component failures.
• Replace failed components and initiate RMAs with vendors as needed.
• Execute basic Linux command-line tasks to validate and test hardware.
• Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
• Support shipping and receiving activities, including unpacking and staging hardware.
• Document procedures, configurations, and operational updates.
• Assist with data center builds, expansions, and special projects.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to urgent infrastructure issues.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma in any discipline.
• Experience working in a data center, lab, or hardware-focused technical environment.
• Hands-on experience with server hardware and component replacement.
• Basic familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Prior experience supporting large-scale or hyperscale data center environments.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals and structured cabling.
• Experience with inventory systems and asset tracking.
• Familiarity with data center best practices and operational standards.
