Job Description
Responsibilities
Our client is an established global energy and commodities trading firm looking to hire a Trading Desk Developer to support its Asia-Pacific power trading business. Working closely with traders, quantitative analysts and risk teams, this role focuses on developing computational tools, trading applications and analytical solutions to support decision-making across regional electricity markets, including Australia and Japan.
Role
You will work directly with the trading desk to understand complex trading and computational challenges, translating business requirements into practical software solutions. Responsibilities include developing and enhancing Python-based applications, simulation and backtesting tools, trading analytics, and data processing pipelines. You will work with market, weather and operational datasets to support trading strategies, position management and risk analysis. The role also involves improving existing systems, automating workflows, integrating external data sources and supporting the deployment and reliability of trading applications. You will have the opportunity to solve engineering problems specific to electricity markets while working alongside trading and quantitative teams.
Requirements
You should have at least 3 years of experience in software engineering, quantitative development or trading technology, with strong Python programming skills and a sound understanding of algorithms, numerical methods and data structures. Experience developing simulation frameworks, backtesting platforms, analytical applications or computational tools would be particularly relevant. Candidates from electronic trading, high-frequency trading, systematic trading or other quantitative engineering environments are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with SQL, data pipelines, C++ or cloud technologies would be advantageous. Prior experience in energy or commodities trading is beneficial but not essential. More importantly, you should be comfortable tackling unfamiliar technical problems, working directly with business stakeholders and developing reliable software solutions in a trading environment.
