ABOUT THE MAJURITY TRUST

The Majurity Trust (Majurity) is a philanthropic organisation that works with donors, social impact partners, and communities to build a thriving Singapore for all. We strive to bridge the gaps in our community that need attention.

We believe in tackling the less-talked-about and often thornier issues by collaborating with our donors and partners. We value the power of the collective. We are constantly engaging with people who are driven to make a real difference in the social sector. This means being open and being willing to look at issues differently.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Director to lead our Finance team. To do well in this role, you need to be comfortable owning the numbers and value the relationships we build with every team, donor and partner. You enjoy building systems that last, and you are someone colleagues can lean on when the finances get complicated.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Director, Finance leads our Finance pillar and sits on our Management Team. The role reports to the COO and is the main finance voice to the CEO and our Board’s Finance, Audit and Investment Committees.

Majurity is a team of about 50 with an operating budget of around S$9M. Since we started, we have raised more than S$100M and supported more than 300 grantee partners. As we have grown, our finances have become more complex, with more entities, more types of funds, and more ways of raising and deploying capital.

Most of this role is about strengthening our finance function: shaping our systems, planning and reporting, and building a strong team. You’ll also work across philanthropic funds, donor-advised funds and earned income, and help put our reserves to work alongside our Investment Committee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Represent Finance on the Management Team and contribute to organisation-wide strategy.
  • Lead and develop the Finance team, setting clear priorities, building capability and accountability.
  • Own Majurity's financial strategy, including how we fund our operations, support sustainable earned-income growth, and keep healthy reserves.
  • Lead the annual budget, forecasts and quarterly management reporting, and turn the numbers into insight that helps teams decide.
  • Partner with department heads on budgets, cost recovery and the financial side of new programmes.
  • Work with Advancement and other teams to widen the sources that fund our operations.

Reporting, Audit & Controls

  • Own the statutory financial statements and governance disclosures.
  • Lead the external audit across entities, including resolving technical accounting positions.
  • Build and maintain internal controls and financial risk management as we grow.
  • Serve as the main management contact for the Finance and Audit Committees, and prepare the papers they receive.
  • Ensure we comply with the Charities Act, its regulations and the Code of Governance.
  • Lead improvements to finance systems and processes, using automation to strengthen accuracy, efficiency and reporting.

Funds & Donor Structures

  • Keep a clear separation between grant funds and operations funds, and the fund accounting behind it.
  • Advise on the financial set-up of new donor vehicles, such as donor-advised funds and multi-year funds.
  • Support Advancement with the systems and processes needed for larger raises.

Investment & Treasury

  • Serve as the management contact for the Investment Committee and help put our investment policy into practice.
  • Monitor investment performance, manage fund manager relationships, and report to the Committee and the Board.
  • Work with Advancement on financial oversight on the endowment model.
  • Manage banking relationships, foreign currency exposure, liquidity and operating reserves.

DESIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS

A minimum of 10 years in finance, with recent experience leading the finance function of an organisation with multiple entities or funds. Professional accountancy qualification (Chartered Accountant, ACCA or equivalent) preferred, with equivalent practical experience recognised.

What you’ll need:

  • Sound Financial Judgement: Led a finance function and answered to a Board or its committees for the numbers.
  • Technical Depth: Strong in financial reporting and audit, and confident advocating and defending a technical position with auditors and regulators.
  • People Developer and Team Builder: Develop people through clear expectations, coaching and constructive feedback, building a capable team that works well across the organisation.
  • Clear Communicator: Make complex financial matters easy to understand, helping management weigh options and make informed decisions.

Good to have:

  • Fund accounting experience, ideally in the impact or nonprofit / charity sector.
  • Exposure to investments, treasury or an endowment, including working with fund managers.
  • Commercial sense, such as building a business model or pricing a service.
  • Comfortable working with donors, bankers, regulators and Board members.

While candidates with the above experience would be preferred, we are open to considering candidates from diverse backgrounds. We recognise that academic performance and experience alone do not define a person’s competencies or fit in an organisation.

What matters most is having the right underlying character and attitudes. If you have not worked in the impact sector, but you believe you have what it takes to excel, we would like to hear from you too. You must of course have a high standard of integrity, be able to work independently, and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
