About the Opportunity

We are partnering with an established global quantitative trading firm seeking a Trade Operations Engineer to join its trading infrastructure and operations function in London or Singapore.

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with sophisticated, high-performance trading systems in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining trading continuity, overseeing operational risk and improving the reliability of production systems.

The role combines real-time trading oversight, technical troubleshooting and software engineering, providing exposure to both the technology and commercial aspects of electronic trading.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee live electronic trading activity, ensuring production systems operate reliably and efficiently.
  • Monitor trading exposures and operational risks, identifying and responding to potential issues.
  • Investigate and resolve time-sensitive production incidents, prioritising accuracy and minimal disruption.
  • Diagnose application and infrastructure issues across interconnected trading systems.
  • Support application configuration, production releases and software deployments.
  • Review application code, investigate defects and implement minor fixes or enhancements where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to automate operational processes and improve system resilience.
  • Collaborate closely with traders, developers and other technical teams to maintain stable trading operations.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of trading workflows, system dependencies and risk controls.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another quantitative discipline.
  • Experience working with Linux-based environments.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical problems.
  • Some exposure to software development, debugging or application support.
  • An interest in financial markets, electronic trading or quantitative investment strategies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to make sound decisions under time pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and willingness to take ownership of operational challenges.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with C++, particularly reading existing code, identifying defects and making small modifications.
  • Experience with Git or other version-control systems.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence or similar development and collaboration tools.
  • Previous exposure to trading systems, financial technology, production engineering or application support.
  • Understanding of automated trading workflows, market connectivity or operational risk management.
