BetterWiser is a boutique legal innovation consultancy operating at the intersection of law, governance and technology. We partner with legal teams, businesses, technology providers, government bodies and educational institutions across Asia-Pacific to support responsible innovation and modernise how legal and compliance work gets done.

We are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate, AI & Data Governance, with 4–8 years of legal or compliance experience, to support a significant regional client project.

The engagement is expected to begin at approximately 30–40 hours per month and continue for 12 months. It will be project-based initially, with the potential to develop into a broader or full-time role with BetterWiser.

You will work directly with BetterWiser and client stakeholders to move AI and data governance from policy to implementation. The role is practical and delivery-focused. You will help establish governance processes, document AI use cases, conduct research and assessments, prepare implementation materials, and transfer knowledge to internal teams.

• Review AI and data governance policies and translate their requirements into practical processes, controls and guidance.
• Identify and document AI systems, tools, agents, integrations, data usage and business use cases.
• Help establish and maintain AI inventories, regulatory trackers and governance documentation.
• Support AI impact assessments, privacy assessments, risk assessments and use-case prioritisation.
• Research AI, privacy and data governance requirements across Singapore and other Asian jurisdictions.
• Work with Legal, Compliance, Technology and business teams to understand operational needs, regulatory obligations and implementation risks.
• Prepare clear, client-ready guidelines, templates, trackers, reports and presentation materials.
• Support stakeholder interviews, workshops and training.
• Help build the capabilities of designated internal owners so they can manage the governance programme over time.
• Contribute to other BetterWiser AI governance, data governance and legal innovation projects where relevant.

• Based in Singapore and able to work on a hybrid basis, including attending client meetings in person when required.
• Have 4–8 years of relevant professional experience in a legal or compliance role.
• Legally qualified, legally trained or experienced in a compliance function.
• Experience as a Data Protection Officer, or in data protection or privacy compliance, is strongly preferred.
• Have practical experience implementing legal, regulatory, privacy, compliance or risk-management requirements.
• Can translate policies and regulatory requirements into workable processes, controls and documentation.
• Comfortable working with stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Technology and business functions.
• Familiar with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini and Claude, and able to use them confidently in your day-to-day work.
• Interested in the practical governance of AI systems, agents, data and automated workflows.
• A strong writer and researcher who can produce clear, precise and professional deliverables.
• Organised, dependable and able to manage project work independently.
• Able to commit approximately 30–40 hours per month for a 12-month engagement.
• Comfortable working through ambiguity while maintaining attention to detail.
• Pragmatic, curious and willing to learn.

Experience with regional privacy requirements, AI governance, AI impact assessments, technology risk, cybersecurity governance or regulated industries would be an advantage.

• A substantive role in a regional AI and data governance implementation project.
• A structured project engagement of approximately 30–40 hours per month for 12 months.
• Practical exposure to AI inventories, use-case assessments, policy operationalisation and governance design.
