The role focuses on ensuring high inspection accuracy, minimizing false calls, improving defect detection capability, and supporting continuous yield and quality improvement. The engineer works closely with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure AOI systems effectively monitor critical assembly processes while supporting production efficiency.
Responsibilities
1. AOI Program Development & Optimization
Develop, create, and optimize AOI inspection programs for PQFN assembly processes.
Fine-tune inspection parameters to maximize defect detection while minimizing false rejects.
Validate new AOI programs before production release.
Continuously improve inspection algorithms based on process capability and defect trends.
2. New Product Introduction (NPI)
Support AOI setup and qualification for new PQFN package introductions.
Develop inspection recipes according to product specifications and customer requirements.
Participate in process characterization and production qualification activities.
Ensure AOI readiness before mass production.
3. Process & Yield Improvement
Analyze AOI inspection data to identify process trends and yield loss.
Work with Process Engineers to eliminate recurring assembly defects.
Drive continuous improvement projects to improve inspection efficiency and first-pass yield.
Support root cause analysis for quality excursions.
4. Defect Analysis
Investigate AOI-detected defects and verify inspection accuracy.
Classify true defects versus false calls.
Maintain defect libraries and golden sample databases.
Recommend corrective actions to reduce defect occurrence.
5. Equipment Support
Support AOI machine setup, calibration, verification, and qualification.
Work with Equipment Engineers on preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
Coordinate machine upgrades, software updates, and hardware improvements.
Monitor AOI equipment performance and utilization.
6. Quality Assurance

Support quality audits and customer visits related to AOI processes.
Maintain inspection documentation, work instructions, and validation records.
Ensure compliance with ISO, IATF 16949, and applicable manufacturing standards.
7. Data Analysis & Reporting
Monitor AOI KPIs such as:
False Call Rate (FCR)
Escape Rate
Detection Rate
Yield
OEE
Perform statistical analysis to identify process improvement opportunities.
Prepare technical reports and present findings to cross-functional teams.
8. Continuous Improvement
Lead or participate in Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and cost reduction projects.
Improve AOI programming standards and inspection methodologies.
Implement best practices to enhance productivity and inspection capability.
Evaluate new AOI technologies for future manufacturing needs.
9. Training & Documentation
