Assistant Lead Engineer – Automation Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Lead Engineer – Automation Engineer to support the Team Lead in overseeing 24x7 platform operations for Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat OpenShift.

The role involves Day 2 operational support, platform upgrades, new platform setup, incident management and infrastructure automation. The successful candidate will also assist the Team Lead with operational coordination, project delivery and technical escalations.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Operations & Technical Support

• Support day-to-day operations of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat OpenShift.
• Manage incidents, service requests and change activities within agreed service levels.
• Perform platform health monitoring, troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA) and capacity management.
• Maintain operational runbooks, standard operating procedures and technical documentation.
• Plan and execute platform upgrades, maintenance and new platform deployments.
• Handle installation, configuration, enterprise service integration and security hardening.

AWS Administration

• Perform basic AWS administration covering computing, storage, networking and Identity & Access Management (IAM).
• Ensure cloud resources are managed in accordance with security and governance requirements.

Team & Operational Coordination

• Assist the Team Lead in managing daily operations and coordinating team workloads.
• Support 24x7 operational coverage, rostering and after-hours maintenance activities.
• Act as the first escalation point during off-hours when the Team Lead is unavailable.
• Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing within the team.
• Track operational metrics and prepare stakeholder status updates.

Project & Stakeholder Management

• Assist with project milestone tracking and deliverable coordination.
• Support risk management and operational planning.
• Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.

Mandatory Requirements

• 6–8 years of overall experience in developing, implementing and maintaining IT systems.
• 3–5 years of experience in platform or infrastructure engineering and support.
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform.
• Production environment experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes.
• Experience in platform upgrades, installation, configuration and new deployments.
• Strong troubleshooting and incident resolution skills.
• Basic AWS administration knowledge covering compute, storage, networking and IAM.
• Prior experience in a senior technical or lead capacity.
• Familiarity with ITSM frameworks, incident management, problem management and change management.
• Good communication, coordination and organisational skills.
• Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call roster and after-hours maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications – Important

Candidates with the following certifications will be preferred:

• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
• AWS Administration Certification.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Elasticsearch.
• Experience with ServiceNow.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and automation methodologies.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and coordinating technical teams.
