About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Silicon Photonics Design Engineer to join our client's growing R&D team in Singapore. You will contribute to the development of cutting edge silicon photonics devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Device Development: Design and optimize high-performance passive and active photonic devices, including couplers, splitters, polarization splitters/rotators, MUX/DEMUX, phase shifters, photodetectors and modulators.
  • Develop photonic devices and PICs for applications including high-speed optical transceivers, co-packaged optics (CPO) and optical switching.
  • Simulation & Modelling: Perform optical/electrical device simulations and develop numerical models to evaluate and optimize device performance.
  • PIC Layout & Tape-out: Develop device and PIC layouts for foundry tape-out and coordinate the design-to-fabrication process.
  • Foundry & Process Development: Work closely with silicon photonics foundries to evaluate and develop new processes and device technologies for next-generation photonic platforms.
  • Device Characterization: Perform optical and electrical characterization, analyze measurement results, identify root causes and drive design improvements.
  • Contribute to the architecture, design, integration and development of large-scale photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional R&D teams across device design, IC design, packaging, testing and product development.

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related fields, with strong research experience in silicon photonics.
  • Strong understanding of silicon photonic devices, integrated photonics and optical device physics.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic foundry tape-outs and photonic PDKs.
  • Proficiency with relevant simulation tools such as Lumerical MODE/FDTD/CHARGE, Ansys HFSS and/or Silvaco.
  • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB for device modelling, simulation and data analysis.
  • Experience in the design, fabrication and characterization cycle of photonic devices or PICs.
  • Exposure to quantum photonics, optical computing or other emerging photonic technologies would be advantageous.
