Senior Manager, Financial Reporting – IFRS 17 (Bermuda Entity)
Location: Malaysia (supporting Bermuda entity)
We are seeking a Senior Manager to own financial reporting for a Bermuda insurance entity under IFRS. The role leads the quality, accuracy and timeliness of entity and group reporting, technical accounting judgements, close governance, and stakeholder management with group finance, actuarial, tax, auditors and, where relevant, the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Key responsibilities
• Own end-to-end IFRS 17 reporting for the Bermuda entity, including quarterly and annual financial statements, notes, disclosures and group reporting packs.
• Lead the IFRS 17 close: journals and analysis of CSM, LRC, LIC, loss component, insurance revenue, insurance service result, and insurance finance income or expenses.
• Advise on measurement models (GMM / PAA / VFA), contract boundary, onerous contracts, new products and complex transactions.
• Maintain IFRS 17 accounting policies, technical papers and documentation.
• Ensure the Bermuda entity’s financial statements comply with the full IFRS framework, with particular strength in IFRS 9 (investments / financial instruments), IAS 12 (tax, including deferred tax on IFRS 17 balances), IAS 1, IAS 7, IAS 8, IAS 10, IAS 21, IFRS 7 and IFRS 13.
• Prepare / review accounting papers for significant or judgemental items.
• Support consolidation or group reporting requirements where the Bermuda entity feeds a wider group.
• Manage the year-end audit and the external auditor relationship on IFRS 17, IFRS 9 and other technical matters.
• Partner with group finance, actuarial, investment, tax and operations to keep data flows and accounting treatments consistent.
• Support Bermuda statutory / regulatory reporting that runs alongside IFRS (e.g. BMA requirements), as applicable.
• Lead process improvement, system enhancement and documentation.
• Present results and technical issues clearly to senior management and group stakeholders.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Professional qualification: MIA / ACCA / CPA / CA or equivalent (mandatory)
• Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in financial reporting, group reporting or Big 4 audit, with substantial insurance or reinsurance exposure.
• Deep technical and practical IFRS 17 experience, strong working knowledge of IFRS 9 and general IFRS financial statement production.
• Proven ability to lead a reporting close, manage auditors and influence senior stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience of journals, reconciliations, financial statement and disclosure production.
• Advanced Excel; experience with Oracle and IFRS 17 / investment reporting platforms preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal English; able to explain technical accounting clearly.
