Background

Permittiv Technologies is a deep-technology venture spinning out of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The Company applies step-frequency continuous-wave radar and artificial-intelligence-driven processing to image the subsurface, mapping pipes, voids, roots and structures that conventional ground-penetrating radar is unable to resolve. The core technology has been validated and is advancing towards its first paid pilots, ahead of incorporation and an initial funding round.

Job scope

Permittiv Technologies is seeking a Founding Chief Executive Officer to join its two co-founders, being the scientific founder responsible for the technology and the commercial lead, in taking the Company from spin-out to scale.

The successful candidate will form part of the founding team, contributing to the Company’s strategy and assuming responsibility for its execution. The appointment is made at an early, pre-incorporation stage; the applicable terms of engagement are set out below. The role lies at the intersection of business development, strategic direction and a degree of technical grounding sufficient to establish credibility. Radar expertise is not a prerequisite. A background in engineering or the sciences would be advantageous, principally to enable the postholder to engage with the underlying research, follow the technology and discuss it with confidence. Greater weight is placed, however, on intellectual curiosity within a specialised field and on the judgement to involve the wider team on complex technical matters.

Key Responsibilities

The Founding Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the following:

• Representing Permittiv Technologies externally before agencies, collaborators and investors, and conveying the technology with confidence. Where a query requires technical input that is not readily available, the postholder is expected to confirm the position with the team before responding, rather than to speculate.
• Responsible for P&L, funding and commercial targets
• Developing and activating a network of partners, customers and channels, drawing upon relationships capable of being engaged at an early stage.
• Acquiring a working command of the technology, encompassing both its capabilities and its limitations, so as to ensure that it is represented accurately at all times.
• Connecting the laboratory and the market by translating the technical roadmap into a sequence of commercial milestones, in close collaboration with the scientific founder.
• Working closely with the CTO to align business and product roadmap

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

• A record of having founded or co-founded one or more start-ups.
• Possesses demonstrable experience of managing a profit-and-loss (P&L) account.
• A genuine interest in radio-frequency (RF) and sensing technologies, supported by a relevant background or a demonstrable capacity to engage with the underlying science and research.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to establish credibility before both technical and non-technical audiences and to remain composed when the technology is subject to scrutiny.
• A high standard of intellectual honesty, representing the strengths of the technology accurately while remaining candid in respect of matters that have yet to be proven.
• An established professional network, spanning customers, partners or sources of capital, that the candidate is able to mobilise.

Terms of Engagement

Prospective candidates should note the following terms of engagement:

• Stage: The Company is pre-incorporation and pre-funding. The position accordingly represents an early-stage opportunity, carrying both considerable potential and a commensurate degree of uncertainty.
• Commitment: The role requires a full-time commitment, together with sufficient personal financial runway to sustain participation in an early-stage venture.
• Compensation: During the current pre-funding phase, cash compensation will be limited or deferred until completion of the first funding round. The overall package, comprising equity and/or salary, will be determined in discussion with the founding team.
